You're welcome, I'd like to take credit for all the nice weather we've been having in the midwest. I've been burning diapers and other plastics here in rural Illinois in an attempt to stave off winter. Sorry about the drought if it affected you.

I tried to time the submission of our paperwork so it gets approved next May/June. That way my mahal and her boy will come in the sumer time and get to gradually experience the cold. She is really worried about how cold it gets here in the Midwest (Indiana) and really can't understand how I go out hunting all day in freezing temps. LOL. I can just see them now, so bundled up in layers of clothing that they can't bend over to play in the snow...............LOL.

It's been forty below zero for three days here. We'll take the snowmachine down to the mailbox today, and to the post office to pick up Christmas presents. At 30 mph that will be 80 below zero wind chill.

That's 150 degrees colder than Hank. No big deal.

Yes, we have been lucky so far. I too am getting back into winter as i was gone a few years living in the PI and working in asia. My wife has been a trooper, although she hasn't seen MN cold yet. She has sat outside in 17 degrees while I was cooking pork chops, but hasn't felt the -40 on Lake Mille Lacs ice fishing. I'm not sure I'm ready for it too. Helps I work overnights in the cold some nights, no choice but to thicken the blood. My wife looks cute as hell all bundled up though.

Haha, the 90 degree difference will be here shortly.

Here I'll warm you up some, it got to 77 today!

BTW I grew up in Minne-snow-da, been in -61 and I don't want to think what the wind chill was, but I will say that it was a bigger number then what the speedo in my truck reads on the top end.

Bopha makes landfall in PhilippinesBig News Network (UPI)Tuesday 4th December, 2012

MANILA, Philippines -- Typhoon Bopha rolled into the southern Philippines early Tuesday, landing on Mindanao Island's Davao Oriental province, the weather bureau said.

The 375-mile-diameter Bopha, locally named Pablo and categorized earlier as a super typhoon by U.S. meteorologists, came ashore just before 5 a.m. local time with sustained wind speeds of 110 miles per hour as authorities prepared for what they feared could be one of the most destructive storms to hit the country.

CNN quoted officials as saying the tightly packed Bopha could be even worse than the Sendong storm last year that killed more than 1,200 people.

Several cities and towns in the region, among the most densely populated in the Philippines, were placed under public storm warning signals by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

ABC-CBN, quoting the PAGASA, said Bopha was moving west at 17 miles per hour and could pick up wind speeds at it approached Roxas city, bringing with it rains of more than 1 inch per hour.

The agency said residents in coastal areas in other provinces including Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat should also be on alert as the storm could bring in up to 20-foot waves.

Authorities have ordered pre-emptive evacuations of people in the coastal areas, especially those facing the Pacific Ocean as the storm threatened to knock out power over wide areas and cause much damage. Residents also were warned about devastating flash flooding and landslides.

CNN, quoting authorities and aid groups, reported millions of people, many living in remote areas, remained in the storm's path.

"The weather is good right now but we keep advising local governments not to be complacent because this is going to get worse," ABS-CBN quoted regional civil defense director Olive Luces as saying earlier.

CNN said government agencies have readied millions of dollars worth of relief supplies for any emergency and placed rescue crews, the military and hospitals on standby.

Bopha was forecast to blanket the waters off Surigao del Sur until Tuesday morning before moving toward Iloilo City on the Visayas Island Wednesday morning and over toward Puerto Princesa City in Palawan Thursday.

Other recent deadly storms to hit the Philippines included last July's Typhoon Saola, which killed more than 50 people in Manila and other parts of the northern Philippines, flooded thousands of homes and caused heavy property and crop damage.

My wife isn't a trooper at all with the Minnesota cold. If she feels cold air on her skin she says she's cold lol. But then I've spoiled her to the hilt. Last winter, which was so mild, she spent in the house with the temperature set at 80. She started working in the spring and we bought her a new car. Its parked in a tuck under garage and has heated seats. She warms it up before leaving either from home or work with a remote start. This year we're working at exposing her to in house temps of 76 in the morning and 78 in the evening. Of course at work she needs to live with the work set temps. She's got some very warm gear so she can be outside, but doesn't like being weighed down so much. She's not too worried about the cold this year though, like she was the first winter. Now she's worried about learning to drive in the snow. She's already a cautious driver, so I'm not really worried about her catching on quickly. As to Mille Lacs, she was in total amazement at being out on the ice last year. I'd shown her pictures and video of being on the ice before she got here, still she found it hard to believe we were driving around on and sitting in a house on the ice.

Wow, we keep the house at 71 deg. now only for the 8 month old. Jena never really gets cold and the last time we vacationed in Phils she mentioned she could never move back to that climate. We both enjoy the 4 seasons here in central IL. She went ice skating her first year here and some friends were ice fishing on the same pond. The only thing that freaked her out was the cracking noise of the ice and her butt was a little sore the next day

Heck my wife will feel cold at 80 degrees! She runs around the house with her socks or slippers on or her feet turn into ice cubes. I'm really glad our quad style townhouse has a southern exposure and lots of glass. It heats cheaper than it air conditions, so we actually save money with the 80 degree temps and this is Minnesota! At night its switched down to 72 in heat mode, but she's under the quilt while I sleep on top of the covers. I just roll over next to her if I get chilly, as she radiates a cloud of heat around her. I recall back in her home town, when the temps dropped down around 80, they all stated throwing on sweatshirts and sweaters. I was just thinking it was getting comfortable and they were getting cold.

We don't have a thermostat.

At forty below zero & colder I feed the fire three times through the night if I want her to be toasty warm upstairs. Anything you want to keep cold just put on the kitchen floor. Put it outside if you want it frozen.

People talk about the cold but the real adjustment is the darkness and cabin fever, AKA "Seasonal Affective Disorder". You need to always be conscious of it and manage it becasuse it can affect your relationship if you don't.
