The sponsor must make 125% of the poverty guidelines listed here for their family size. Family size is the sponsor, the beneficiary, and any persons claimed on the sponsor's income tax return as a dependant. Assets for a spouse are taken at 1/3 their fair market value. If the beneficiary is not the spouse than assets are taken at 1/5 their fair market value. Any combination of assets and income can be used to get above the 125% level. If not able, then a co-sponsor is required--some Embassies/Consulates do not accept co-sponsors or have a higher income level if a co-sponser is used. You might want to check your Embassy/Consulate to see what their requirements are.

Good luck,

Dave

No, income must reach the 125%.

If you use assets, they are counted x3 for a spouse or x5 for others- so if you are short $1000 on income to sponsor your spouse, you would need $300o in assets. Not all assets count- your only car woull not, and a family home rarely does, but a rental property or holiday home would count (minus any mortgage on it of course).
