My California birth certificate is only one page..

Hey! Happy thanksgiving!!

Yes my BC from california is only one page, has everything normally needed, I thought that was fine, then I keep reading that people have sent those in and actually gotten an RFE because even tho thats the birth certificate given here in CA, there is maybe a long BC as well that you can obtain?

I just read this somewhere else and wanted to know if its true. Im also planning on ordering another original BC NOW incase I need them later cuz I know it takes a long time to obtain them sometimes and I only have one copy of my original. And I want to know before I request them if I should ask for some other kind of BC thats not the normal one?

Any advice would be so great guys!

You birth certificate must contain your parents names and the date and location of your birth. California birth certificates (both long and short) are one page, at least the handwritten hospital filled in one from my ex-husband was only one page. The only time I have needed the hand filled in one was for my UK passport, I've always just used the basic one for other purposes. Perhaps someone else here can clarify that. I think they say long-form is because in countries such as the UK, the short form doesn't list enough of the information, but I believe the American ones do.

Perhaps by two pages, someone meant they copied the front and back as your are supposed to do?

My California birth certificate (from 1971, the original, with all the info I can imagine, mothers's and father's names and occupation and everything) is only one side. However, as the I-129F instructions state, I scanned BOTH sides of the certificate in color to send in ... the back is blank but you can make out the indentation of the purple seal from the front, that's really all that shows other than a small crease mark.

To be safe, and for other reasons (customs stamps, proof of entry for visits in person), I also sent in color copies of ALL pages in my passport. So between the two forms of proof of US Citizenship, I surely hope it won't be a problem.

My Mass Birth Certificate had one side and I did not get an RFE. I just wrote on the the back Left Blank... and they accepted it.

No the stamp is on the front in the corner along with the signature and everything! I thought everyone had that kind

Mine has where, when, just my parents names and where and when they were born and then signature from my mom and the doctor and dated and signed again by the hospital then at the bottom two corners there is two seals and dated and signed again.All the info is actually only half a page. Im going to ask the hospital for more if i can and send those..if I can only get one then im just going to send that one and copy both sides..From what I reead tho this BC doesnt have enough info..

This sounds like the long-form. I've taken another look at my ex-husband's and it does look like that. I have several versions of my NY birth certificate and the long form is the one signed by the doctor with the parents' places of birth. It is called a Certificate of Live Birth. With the NY one they blow it up to fit the whole page, but the California one is kind of small compared to the page. The NY ones have a stamp and signature on the back though.

My short form only lists the names of my parents, date, and place I was born. It does not have a doctor's signature nor does it show where my parents were born or the hour of my birth (all things on the long form).
