Just passed the two week mark

Just passed the two week mark, and the visa still hasn't arrived in the mail. I have a flight out tomorrow morning. The plan was and has always been to spend my first Thanksgiving with the in-laws in California. The flight can be postponed, Thanksgiving can't. I understand you can't always have it your way with immigration, but not knowing is a horrible feeling when you're supposedly at the finish line.

Anyway, the embassy won't answer anything IV related over the phone. They have not responded to my emails in 5 days. The embassy closes for Thanksgiving I'm guessing tomorrow. All I want to know is whether they have mailed out my visa or not. If I don't get a response from the embassy, would the DOS be able to answer something as mundane as this? And what would be the correct number to call?

Excuse my ranting. I've been waiting a while.

Yes, call the DOS they will be able to tell you if the visa was issued, if it is in AP, or what ever the status the Consulate has entered thus far. Best of luck to you!

I'm sorry =[

I know it probably means nothing, but at least you have a good chance of being together for Christmas. =\

I'd be doubly upset if I had to miss Christmas.

Regular mail. First flight Thursday leaves here at 7:40am, lands in LA at 3pm. I can make it for leftovers!

Just received a reply from the embassy:

"It has yet to be sent. We will contact you in a near future."

You are very patient...I think I would have flipped out by now! It is especially weird because other people have been getting them in 2-3 days, haven't they?

Can't think of any timeline I've seen from Stockholm where a visa has taken more than 14 days to be put in the mail. As I said, I called DOS yesterday and they said the visa was issued, no mention of AP or AR or anything of that nature, and told me they had "probably sent it out last week."

"We will contact you in a near future." Just makes me all the more worried lol. Should I be worried?

From most timelines it seems like 5 - 8 days is the norm. User Rarasantiago waited 15 days, but the embassy had mailed it out after 13 days.

I know this may be a silly question..if they approved your visa during the interview...can they deny it after the fact?

The reason I am asking because I read some posts where people had to wait months for their visa to be issued....and I wonder if they can deny it through AP?

I was a little concerned about this too. However, I did call DOS today, and they said "Your visa is approved and issued. You have nothing to worry about, everything is ok. When it's ready, they will mail it to you."

If an applicant is put in AP, and they 'find something' then yes, certainly they can refuse to issue the visa. In general, no one is safe until the visa is received, POE cleared, and ROC done. Actually, in immigration terms, something can go wrong all the way up until your oath ceremony.

I did read one member on this forum who went for a student visa interview, was approved, and received his passport back in the mail a week after with a denial letter. Strange things happen in immigration. Although most 'problems' are often not as big as they may seem, the effects of a 'problem' can be extremely detrimental and even life altering to the applicants and their families. That's why it's so nerve wrecking when not everything goes according to status quo.

Hi Jay Jay!!

Rarely on a CR/IR you would get a denial after the fact, because at this point the only reason for them to reconsider your approval is something short of you being in the 10-most wanted list. All the same, the wait is never fun.... Hang in there buddy!!!

On another subject... so you will miss this Thanksgiving dinner with the in-laws but Thanksgiving is more than just a one-day holiday. There are no rules or laws that would consider you a criminal if you were to prepare a full Thanksgiving meal once you're stateside. In fact, I think it would bode rather well if you had a holiday on a regular day and surprised your in-laws for a holiday dinner on a otherwise mundane day. So, make Thanksgiving wait for you, instead of you missing it altogether.

Hang in there and be patient. The wait is almost over.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and family!!!
