Every time i have went to the philippines i have always flown Korean Air. This time around i choose to go with United Airlines to save a few dimes. That was the biggest mistake of my whole visajourney so far. I am going to venture to say that all American owned Airlines are like this one. I cannot stand these Union Card holding B!tch employee's. They are the nastiest rudiest people i have ever had the displeasure of being served by. Each way there and back i had four legs of flights and on ever flight me and Monreal were disrepected by an employee from United Airlines. I have never had this kind of experience on Korean Air. Who the Hell am i going to call to make some serious complaints, oh what a second. If i call United Airlines i get to talk to someone from the philippines at a call center. How the hell can you chew out a philipina? You just cant. I really hate the fact that when someone holds a union card, they can be a B!tch to you and get away with it because they are protected. I will never fly any American owned airline again.

I agree 100%! I just flew in yesterday on ANA Airlines and I flew Korean Air last year. What a difference there is in customer service. Asian airlines seem to take pride in how they treat their passengers. The experiences I've had with American airlines made me feel like I was just an inconvenience. I paid $400 for this ticket and you mean to tell me I can't have another bag of peanuts?? #######???

Last year on the flight to the PI on Korean Air, there was a medical emergency. I helped out along with two of my friends. The crew did everything they could to thank us for our assistance. Including flagging us in their computer, so when we checked in for our return flight we had passes to their AWESOME lounges in Manila and Seoul.

ANA was awesome too. I will NEVER fly on an American airline for flights to the Philippines. It's too bad they don't have domestic US flights, or I'd boycott them in the US too!

On a lighter note, I hope you had an awesome time!

Agreed my first trip was on American Airlines, the staff was rude they hardly give you much to eat and make you pay for everything. I had to dispute just get them to pour me a little soda to drink. I was hungry the whole trip and treated poorly.

But, on Korean Air flying coach feels like being first class. The staff are wonderful, friendly , you are given plenty of drink and alcohol choices. Personally, I will only fly Korean Air or Japan Airlines (JAL) JAL also treated me very well, on a flight that didnt have many people on board they auto upgraded me to business (i didnt even ask)

So nice

I avoid them as much as possible too. Overpriced, and service is generally lousy. Depending where you're flying from and into of course, some flights are worse than others.

I never knew airline stewards were friendly people until I started flying on non American owned airlines.

I guess I must have had the opposite experience when flying UA. Aside from the 4 part flight, but that's typically what you get when you try to fly for the cheapest price available. I didn't have any issues with the staff during our flight. I had a ton of snacks and beverages brought to us throughout the flight. Granted they didn't have the best electronics compared to ot other airlines I've flown with like JAL. Yet when I've flown China Air and PAL it took FOREVER to get help from the staff, but I guess that's why from airline ratings they are ranked the worst 2 airlines scraping the bottom of the barrel. Cathay Pacific was good, Korean Air was good as well. So I guess it just comes down to who staffs your flight...

How exactly did they piss you off? I've used PAL, JAL, KAL, Delta, UA, and Northwest and never really had a problem other than luggage problems, KAL and Delta both one time did not get me and my luggage to Manila at the same time, luggage arrived the next day. I bring my own snacks on them long trips, don't like peanuts and pretzels , and the food sucks on all airlines I am not into tv dinners.

I agree. We had an awful experience the last time we flew United through Vancouver to The Philippines before and after connecting with Phiilppine Airlines.

It's funny you mention unions. I think they may have had their place in the American work force years ago and did some really good things, but I think they've been the ruin of many American companies in the last few decades. Our public schools are no exception imo.

We may pay an extra $400 per ticket next time and try Asiana Airlines.

I used to have to fly domestically often for work and United was always the best of the bunch.

My first international flight in decades (smoking was allowed on board the last time I flew international!) was on a Korean Air flight from IAD to CEB. I honestly didn't know how much better flying could be.

I requested an emergency row seat at check in because I'm tall and the extra leg room really helps (again with all of my knowledge based on domestic flights and airlines). They gave it to me, but it turns out I didn't need it. I was really apprehensive about being on an aircraft for that length of time. Five hours to Vegas with my knees crammed into the seat in front of me on a domestic airline is torture...nearly three times that was a big cause for anxiety. The seat spacing allows plenty of room...even for a fourteen hour flight.

During the first meal course, I was in the last row to be served and they had run out of the "western" meals and only had Korean meals left. The poor attendant was so apologetic, I tried to tell her I would have taken the Korean meal anyhow, but I don't think she quite understood. The Korean meal comes with some assembly required, and the two girls seated next to me in my row were happy to show me how to put things together. I thought they were college kids coming home from a visit, turns out they were flight attendants who started their shift mid-way through the flight.

My only complaint is that there were too many services. Every time I fell asleep someone would be by offering something else (they didn't try to wake me, I just sleep lightly on aircraft). Juice, coffee, hot towels, meals, snacks....they really seemed to want to be too good to us.

Flying domestically has often reminded me of that David Spade sketch on SNL...buh bye, buh bye, buh bye.

I'm going back to Cebu in February on Korean Air...no anxiety at all this time.

I fly Hawaiian Airlines when going to the Phils and I have always been happy with them, the international side of the flight has more perks then the domestic side but I will say I have always been pleased with the staff onboard.

When you have a culture with servitude and docility as a principal component it is no surprise that you like their "service" better. Consider the fact that many foreign airlines impose restrictions on how old their attendants can be and even whether or not they can be married. While you may balk and blame "unions," consider also the corresponding rights and freedoms the employees of US carriers have and the abuses that foreign employees often endure.

FWIW - Delta has always been fine with me.

You're right, the employees of the US carriers probably have more rights and freedoms. On the other hand, to take advantage of union negotiated job security by displaying the attitude to customers that I've experienced first hand is uncalled for and unacceptable to me. That's why I choose to take advantage of my freedom and fly a different airline.

I find a written complaint results in discounts, free tickets, and body massages.

You really should submit it via postal mail with delivery tracking.

This has been my experience with many European carriors also. They are simply WAY better. Fly to Europe on KLM or CSA (Czech airlines) and you will gain weight on the way! The serve food and drink nearly constantly and if that isn't enough, go back to the galley and the Stewardess their (always 12 clicks hotter than an American stew) will give you anything you want
