Russian transit visa

So I had my visa interview a few days ago and I've been looking up flights from Oslo to Los Angeles. One of the cheapest airfares I've found is with Aeroflot through Moscow Sheremetyevo. I know Norwegian citizens normally need a visa to enter Russia, but is this true also if I want to just change flights there? I'd be at the airport for roughly 8 hours, and I'd be entering the US on a CR-1.

I've tried googling but not really getting any smarter.

i've found something on wiki...

"Direct airside transit

Passengers travelling through international airports do not need a visa for a transit of less than 24 hours, provided a confirmed onward ticket is held and the traveller remains in the international transit area (without clearing passport control).

That said, most Russian airports do not have an international transit area. The most important exceptions are:

Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) which has an international transit area common for terminals D, E and F;

Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport (DME) which has an international transit area in its only terminal;

Yekaterinburg's Koltsovo International Airport (SVX) which has an international transit area in its international terminal."

here is the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Russia

also, i dont know what websites have you checked for booking the flight, but you might wanna check orbitz.com and cheapoair.com...they're really good on prices, and also check for a round trip..sometimes it's cheaper like that than if you book only one way:)

good luck!

Great info! Thanks. The international transit area part is what confused me as many Russian airports don't seem to have one.

So I had my visa interview a few days ago and I've been looking up flights from Oslo to Los Angeles. One of the cheapest airfares I've found is with Aeroflot through Moscow Sheremetyevo. I've tried googling but not really getting any smarter.

The requirements changed on Sept 9th of this year between the US and Russia. Maybe they changed for European countries as well. A transit visa is not longer requred if you remain in the same airport and the next flight is within 24 hours.

You do not need a visa just to change flights within the airport. Google "Russian transit visas" I have done it many times going to Donetsk, Ukraine. I never got a visa or needed one unless we were going to exit the airport or stay in Moscow for a few days
