Hi > I received my green card back in 1982 and although I did live in the US for a period of 6 years, most of the time I have actually resided and worked in Wales. I've now decided that I want to return to the US and wonder if this is pssible to do so (I have never filed income tax returns etc)?! I have never been questioned when I've been to the US on holiday, by the border control, about my alien card or social security number?

Any ideas?

Did you use your greencard to enter the US on holiday or the VWP?

If you failed to maitain a US residence and submit Federal tax returns you will have abandoned your Greencard...

are you married to a USC? or how did you get your greencard in 1982?

Sorry for all the questions just need more info.. to give the best info..

Kezzie

What have you done in the last 18 years to maintain the US as your prime residency?

maggie_rose,

Try to find a US immigration attorney who has good experience with abandonment issues (they may be hard to find) and have a consultation to review the facts of your situtation and get some advice on what to do and what to not do to find out what your present US immigration status might be.

For sure you do not want to do something that might cause CIS or CBP to wake up and make a determination that you don't want them to make if you can avoid it.
