My fiancée and her daughter passed thru all the preliminary questions with the Filipino screener: affidavit of support, ITR, w-2, paystubs, remittance copies, and several dated pics. The meeting with the American consul was going quite well until towards the end. He mentioned that I had a car loan with my ex-wife, and if my fiancée was alright with that arrangement. (During the divorce process, all joint credit/bank accounts were separated and each one responsible for their own……especially this car loan. It was refinanced solely in my ex-wife’s name and SSN.) Sept. 2012 I’ve got a copy of my 3 credit reports confirming that this car loan is no longer in my file for at least 10 months now.

My fiancée answered in the affirmative mentioning my ex-wife’s name and to the fact that I was no longer part of the loan. The consul was impressed that my fiancée knew about all of these. (I’ve told her everything about my previous relationships).

Finally he reminded my fiancée that she was under oath and bound by law to tell the truth – for even if the visa is issued and later found out that fraud was involved…….she would be separated from her daughter never to be reunited again. My fiancée was confused.

Finally the consul asked my fiancée “Are you sure you don’t have anything to say to me?” My fiancée answered “nothing”. Then she was told to wait for her number to be called outside. No congratulations, no disapproval, nothing. After her number was called, she proceeded to the window and was told to just wait for her visa to be delivered. No additional paperwork required.

Why those questions from the consul?

Yup! That is what they did with my wife, the CO didn't say approved, welcome to America... nothing, Just wait for your number to be called at the next window, there she was told to go home and wait for her visa to be delivered, at that point I asked - does this mean she is approved. Visa arrived 14 days later.

So relax and wait, the visa will arrive soon.

Same situation happened to us. We had seperate interviews and I was asked about my ex's house and why I didn'nt include as my residence as somewhere it showed I was living there. I hadn't lived there for 8 years. I explained it was my ex's house and I'm not part of it and I'm not on the loan and you have my divorce decree which states this. So he said, "I suppose you're not aware that it's in forclosure?" no Sir, but what a wierd and strange place to find out.

We were told to wait for 2GO, no congrats, no approval. Visa was at 2GO 10 days later with a weekend and a couple holidays in there. No worries!! Congrats..

I Have found that different Consuls say different things to visa Applicants. Some say you are Approved right out and others say report to window so and so and thats it. My Wife had her Interview with the infamous Lady Consul at Window 62, who is very Strict. At the end of her Interview after the Lady Consul told her, "Welcome to America" and my wife said after ALL the Strict Questions, that Statement was the one that mattered. Some Consuls say Absolutely Nothing, just report to this Window.

The CO was on a fishing expedition and your fiancée was the fish that got away.

Yes, all remittance copies were submitted to the Filipino screener. The CO just glanced over some dated pics. I think it's true - it's the positional authority that they exercise over the applicant. Just have to wait when the visa arrives. Thanks for all the replies.
