What color pen to sign on the forms?

This maybe a silly question but what color pen should I use to sign on DS 230 and DS 156? Blue or black? I"m asking because for my medical checkup for the visa I had to use a black pen only.

Are consular officers picky about pen colors in the DS forms too?

There are no such requirements.

However, I used blue ink when signing applications and documents, to easily tell an document original from a document copy.

YMMV.

Blue is better when sending the original because they can see it is not a copy by the color of the pen. However if your sending a copy it will show up as black anyway.

For what it's worth all my forms were done in black, no issues.

I would say it really doesn't matter unless the form instructions tell you otherwise.
