Walgreens will take your passport photo for $7.99 for two pictures. You can do it yourself but you need to make sure it's sized correctly and fulfills all the requirements (head has to measure a certain size etc).

I took my own to save $$ I used a digital SLR, photo editor to crop and place 4 2x2" in a 4x4" square, and printed them out using a 4x6" thermal photo printer.

Photo requirements can be found here, they need to be composed correctly.

Correct photo shopped to remove blemishes and alter appearance are a strict no/no, but cropping the picture to get a 2"x2" square is acceptable, just don't alter the picture in any way. Edited by YuAndDan

I use photoshop elements 3.0 to resize and crop to a 2x2" form factor cut and them paste into a 2x2 grid yielding me 4 pix on a 4x6 print, the cut them apart. Cost per picture about 25cents. I cannot stand getting ripped off at Kinkos, Walmart or anywhere else knowing the true cost of the pictures. I have the tools and am a photo bug I might as well use them. Again the pictures are "un-retouched" I don't use photoshop to enhance the pictures, only to crop and print.

I did mine myself too. Took them with a digital camera, resized and cropped them in Photoshop, printed them on Canon photo paper in my colour printer. They were accepted at all parts of the process, from applications to medical to visas.
