Fingerprinting question

Because my husband´s twin brother was deported 5 years ago, my husband was asked to submit fingerprints for an FBI check to verify that he is actually who he says he is not his twin brother.

The CO told us it only takes a couple of days to get the results....just wondering if anyone has had this experience (the fingerprinting) and what happened in your case?

We are hoping and praying that it really only takes a couple of days to receive the results, so that is specifically what I am asking about. We are extremely anxious to go back to Texas together next week.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated (L)

Yes...our situation is a bit unusual. I don´t know how common it is for the CO to request fingerprints be taken at the interview, but I assume it doesn´t happen too often.

On our 221g form, there were no boxes checked....only a note written by the CO on the bottom of the page that read ¨Wait for a phone call¨

So completely ridiculous to torture us like this, but at least we are together.

I hope they call today....it´s been 2 days

I am in your same situation. Going thru Juarez. I have been waiting 3 months for fingerprint clearance. I just got off the phone with consulate - still nothing. I don't think people on phone know much but he said something about DHS having to approve case since now under administrative review and that takes time. However I'm not sure if that is true or not. Honestly who knows what they do. No one ever gives me a straight answer - other than just wait for new letter. My letter was same - nothing checked - just under other - said record check and wait for new appointment letter. Very frustrating.

Fingerprints are done either two index prints or a full set of prints. IF you have to give a full set of prints it means that you have had a name hit or must overcome identity check. Full sets of prints are sent to the FBI in the states to be manually processed whereas the index prints are done at the embassy level.

It may require a full fingerprint check and customized investigation. Full clearance from FBI (via the NVC) in most cases can take 4 to 6 weeks, but in some cases much longer and even months.

Taken from http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/Secu...tiveReview.html

an FBI official receives and analyzes the FBI’s records and then forwards the information to the post.[83] If there is no match in the IDENT system, then the visa applicant’s fingerprints are stored in the US-VISIT database in IDENT and a fingerprint identification number (FIN) is returned to the post.[84] Once the visa has been issued, the nonimmigrant visa system sends to the DHS’ Interagency Border Inspection System (IBIS) the issued visa data, including the visa applicant’s photo and fingerprint identification number.[85]

The CO at our interview said it used to take 4-6 weeks, but now it can be done digitally and only takes 2-5 days. My husband´s fingerprints were scanned (not using any ink) and sent directly from the Embassy to the FBI.

Things are a little more high-tech now, thank goodness.

Your situation sounds very frustrating, indeed. Fortunately, Luis and I don´t have to go back to the Embassy for another appointment. They said that our approval is contigent upon the results of the fingerprinting, and once they verify the identity of my husband, all we have to do is send the passport via DHL to get our visa.

It´s just so ridiculous, this whole thing

We were told the same thing, to wait 2-3 weeks. Today is the 2 month mark since the interview and still nothing... :( Stay positive, but don't get your hopes up! At least you are together :)

FYI: if you do end up waiting longer than you expect, you can contact DOS Visa Services at 202-663-1225, then 1-0-4-3-0 to speak with an operator. Sometimes they can help you out and let you know where you're standing, but other times they can't give much info.

Good luck!

I know how you feel. I hardly ever smile any more. All I can think about is not being with Leo and this fingerprint #######. Feels like we are being punished for other peoples crimes with this current wait time to get fingerprints back from FBI. CDJ replied to an email I sent today and advised the fingerprints were sent to DHS date of interview and it is taking approx 6 months for a response. Not sure why consulate officers tell us 1 wk, 1 month, 2 months etc for the delay. Maybe this is the case if done internally but when has to be sent to DHS it is so much longer. Hopefully none of us will have to wait the 6 months and they are just giving us worst case scenerio but I have been waiting 3 mths already. I have had to prepare myself for Leo not being here for holidays. This is so hard especially since we thought we were done 3 months ago and were already suppose to be married. If it does take 6 months it will mark 1 year for getting the visa.

Feel free to vent here on VJ - we are know what each one of us is going through.

Best of luck to all of us awaiting FBI checks for a speedy return.

Allie

TracyLuis, hang in there and remember (even though it is hard) that this too, shall pass and someday these difficult months of waiting apart will be a distant memory and will give your relationship strength and meaning. It sounds impossible when you are in the middle of this terribly frustrating process, but it is true.

In the meantime, enjoy Lima -- perhaps you could go on a trip somewhere with your husband? There is lots to see....and eat :)

And remember: this too, shall pass, and you have the strength to make it through anything.

My man went through Dublin-had his prints taken & they were back in 3 weeks...............truth is there is no set time-some get them back in a week others months, but try not to be upset, I am sure you will hear good news soon. Keep your chin up ;)

I know how it feels to wait(believe me) but it is all worth it in the end.
