Montreal Consulate Question

I just got back from Montreal, I was there for my medical, and I walked past the consulate so I would know what I was looking for when I go back next week for my interview, and I noticed the sign out front that advised what was not allowed inside. So now I have a question. It said no car keys with the electronic key fobs are allowed inside, which pretty much all car keys have now, mine included. I was prepared to bring only the required paperwork, and leave everything else in my car, but I hadn't thought about my car key. I have no idea what to do now! How can I not bring my car key? I have no where safe to leave it. What do others do with their keys? Help please! Any advice on how to work this out?

Yeah from what I've read, they have like a security thing that you can leave keys and/or a cell phone and pick it up when you leave. I'm assuming they give you like a claim ticket or something that matches the bin your keys are in.

Can you take the fob off your key? Or is it all in one? I wouldn't worry about though, I've read a lot of the reviews and just like the posters above, they have said you can check your key.

1. You can leave them with your hotel.. that's what I did. Meant a trip back there, but it was good feeling safe.

2. I've read there's a couple of close-by coffee shops that will hold your items for you, for a $5 charge... Not sure on this.

I saw someone get turned away (not sure what they had,) so I wouldn't chance it, personally, hoping they have somewhere to keep things there, because they never told me that.. I was told not to bring any electronics, including my cel phone or key fobs etc.

The guards coming in can keep them for you. they do have little boxes behind in which they will put it and give it back on the way out. No worries...

No they can't but they can and will deny you entry!! No skin off their back. Their is a place close by that rents out lockers

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We had our interview in May and were able to leave our keys with the guard. I wouldn't count on being able to leave other things at there(cell phones etc). I saw several people turned away because they had bags that were too big though. One lady had a purse that I didn't think was that big, but they turned her away. Good luck!

HI...I had my interview in Mtl in Sept. Yes, they turned away people with bags, briefcases, etc that were too large. They did hold cell phones and car keys but its still not recommended you bring these for obvious reasons. They gave you a ticket and held them. Upon exit, you handed the guard the ticket and he gave you your belongings. They do not hold large items....as, I'm sure, a safety issue. The people that were turned away, returned and were let in. Most hotels are withing walking distance so it would take you no time at all to return to fetch a paper or two.

Now here I am having anxiety again lol. I have one of those accordion folders, it's about 10x12x2. I just like the way I can have everything in its own section so I can find it easier. Should I relocate the papers to a smaller file?
