Do we receive a notice when our K1 has been sent to/received at the NVC? It's been two weeks today, I spoke with a guy at USCIS who said it could take up to 60 days for it to be sent to the NVC...which blew me away. Has anyone else had it take that long?

Thanks!

No, you won't receive a letter when the approved petition is sent from USCIS to NVC, but you will receive a letter when the case leaves the NVC and is headed to the embassy/consulate. After our petition was approved, it took four weeks for the file to leave USCIS' mailroom and make its way to the NVC.

As LeftCoastLady said, you will receive a letter from the NVC once the petition is ready to leave to the consulate. It seems like that sometimes takes a while. We got our NVC letter after more than three weeks after NOA2. I know of at least one recent German case where the NVC letter actually arrived AFTER the fiancée in Germany had received Packet 3. You can call them 1-2 weeks after NOA2 though and get your case number. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks. When I did call the USCIS earlier this week and I asked if I could get my case number he didn't have the slightest clue what I was talking about. That said, every answer he did have for me sounded like he was reading from a computer screen. And he kept putting me on hold.

So I could try calling back and finding out what my case number is? Cool. Thanks!!!

The consular number comes from the NVC, not USCIS, which is why the rep didn't know what you were talking about.

Call NVC to get your case # not USCIS. When you call, they'll ask for the Case # tell them you don't have it yet, you'll tell them your Receipt Number from I-797C. It starts with WAC or EAC123456789. Yours was approved 2 weeks ago, they should have it by now. If they say to call after 15 days, don't listen and keep calling or speak to Tier 2 rep.

Good luck!

Yes, you need to call the NVC. They will ask you for your receipt number as well as the petitioner's & beneficiary's names and birthdates and give you your case number. You can also ask them if they have already sent out the documents to the consulate.

As mentioned upthread, you will receive a letter from NVC with the consular number and stating the petition is on its way to the embassy/consulate.

On the various documents, you should check with others who have gone through Germany (i.e. visit the Europe sub-forum) to see how the procedures are handled there. Each embassy/consulate varies in how they handle the paperwork.
