A "surprise" notice

Surprise, surprise! :)

I'm a conditional GC holder and last week I received "A notice of requirement to file joint petition to remove the conditional basis of an alien's permanent resident status". I thought USCIS doesn't send out such notices. Well, I was wrong, they do.

Happy Monday!

Even VJ (Guides) says "You will NOT be sent any reminder to file this petition from USCIS". :)

@A + M: It is funny, I received one as well. Maybe it depends on what center processed the request.

I noticed that they sent the notice to the address I had when I originally filed, instead of the last one I updated with the AR-11.

Guessing that the center that had my first request sent it out, maybe not a widespread policy? Who knows... Happy Wednesday!

It seems some people get that reminder and others don't. My husband got his reminder a month before he could send in his packet; however, I know some people who never got anything. I guess you never know. :)

The problem is if VJ writes "you will" or "you might" then what if someone is expecting it and doesn't monitor their own dates themselves? It used to be no-one got one, it's also sent to your original address (mine was but my in-laws live there so it wasn't a problem).

It should be "don't rely on being sent on, monitor your dates yourself!"

Good point. :) I just kept track of the date so we knew our window opened at the end of January. The reminder in the mail came to us as a surprise. :)
