Confussed about the 4 month extention

I am confussed a bit, someone just asked about getting an extention if you have not received your interview yet. Is this true? Do you have to make a certain time line after you been approved your petition and then it is on the waiting list for your interview? Then after you receive your Visa then it is valid for 6 months? What happens if the waiting list is 20 - 24 month (like in my case) so what would I have to do then? I would have to keep extending it. But if I read correctly it can only be extended fo 4 Months?????? Can someone help me out here I am totally confussed. Thank you, WJR

From the US Foreign Affairs Manual

http://foia.state.gov/masterdocs/09fam/0941081N.pdf

“An approved K1 petition is valid for a period of four months from the date of Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) action and may be revalidated by the consular officer any number of times for additional periods of four months from the date of revalidation, provided the officer concludes that the petitioner and the beneficiary remain legally free to marry each other within 90 days after the beneficiary’s admission into the United States.” x x x

Petitioner/Beneficiary need not do anything. Embassy automatically extends validity provided that you remain legally free to marry.

Extensions should not be taken to be automatic. Even the FAM states 'may'.

don't know if the revalidation is automatic at most Embassys, PatientlyWaiting is right about Manila, since long waits for interviews are the norm. Embassys with long waits it's probably the most common. best thing is to check your Embassy's website.

Nevermind.

Your question would have been appropriate in the original thread.
