I have been trying to schedule our interview in Montreal (all month of Aug) and always receive "No appointments available at this time" message. I have tried various times of days, weekends etc., no luck. Starting to wonder if I am doing something wrong? Any tips? Any inside info on when the consulate opens additional appointment dates?

I thought they TOLD you when to come. I had no idea you could choose dates.

IR-1/CR-1 applicants do not choose their interview date, they are assigned to them. I'm not sure what the above posters are talking about, except that one of them says they filed at the embassy...though I thought Canada didn't allow DCF anymore. To find out the interview date you have been assigned, you have to call the NVC, call the DOS, wait for notification via email if you have opted into electronic communication, or wait for the hard copy in the mail if you haven't.

No, that's not what I'm talking about. NVC is National Visa Center, their website is here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1309.html

You are correct, Canada does not do DCF anymore. Unless the petitioner in the case of the poster who indicated they filed at the embassy is living in Canada and was granted an exception, I'll speculate the poster that inputted they filed at the Embassy misunderstood the purpose of that field.

Canadians doing spousal immigration should look at this wiki: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_for_Montreal_Beneficiaries_%E2%80%93_Electronic_Processing_and_New_Online_Forms#Steps

Once you have a case complete, you can find out your interview date either through an operator at NVC (603-334-0700) or DOS (202-663-1225). An email will also be sent out with the interview date, but you might find out sooner through an operator if you call every day.

Once you have an interview date, get an appointment for your medical and prepare all your papers for the interview. Good luck!

Hi Andy ~ My husband (Canadian) and I (American) have been married (and lived in Canada) for 10 years. We started our U.S Visa app in 2008 and initially filed directly at the U.S consulate in Vancouver. We have slowly worked towards getting his green card...with long "pauses" between, as we have loose-ends to finish up before moving...thus it being a longer process for us, than most. On Jan.19,2012 we received the same letter (as what you posted)from Montreal...telling us to register on the CSC website. Our letter also tells us to "Schedule your visa interview appointment". "When prompted to select "Trip Purpose", you must choose 'Permanently Immigrate to the US.' We were also told (after inquiring via email) that my husbands application will be terminated on Jan.19,2013 (one year to date of this letter), if we do not come forward to "claim" his green card...thus being the Montreal interview. So now we are desperately trying to schedule our own appointment thru the CSC website as directed. I only ever get the "there are no appointments available at this time" response.

I am wondering if your and our "Visa process" is a bit different from others, because we did the direct consulate filing to begin with?? I read or heard 3rd hand somewhere, that this direct consulate filing is no longer available to Canadians?? It gets very confusing, because everybody's situation is a little bit different.

DCF in Canada was available until August 15th 2011, if petitions were filed prior to that date, then the DCF process is still in play for said petition and the process would in fact be different versus filing stateside. Anyone going through the this process via the DCF route should follow any and all official directions and instructions given.

Timeline

I only ever get the "there are no appointments available at this time" response.

bcpenpal,

It seems like we are in a similar situation with all the same criteria applying. In your case, with things potentially expiring in January I'd contact your senator or congress person and voice your concerns with the delays and potential expiration of your application. It seems like a few people have done the same here and it worked well for them. I'm tempted to have my wife get on the phone shortly soon as well. It'd be nice to be settled by Christmas, but I won't hold my breath.

DCF in Canada was available until August 15th 2011, if petitions were filed prior to that date, then the DCF process is still in play for said petition and the process would in fact be different versus filing stateside. Anyone going through the this process via the DCF route should follow any and all official directions and instructions given.

Hi Ryan, Thanks for posting this. It's nice to know we aren't so completely out of the loop that we're trying to go forward the right way.
