Keeping passport after K-1 interview

Hi :) I currently have my K-1 interview scheduled in a few weeks in Paris, but I have a pretty big problem as I've just realized they'd keep my passport and I need to travel abroad right after the interview (not to the US)... so I need to have my passport back with me, and I can't easily cancel that trip either!

Has anyone else been in that situation? Is it possible to mail in your passport a couple weeks after the interview date? Is there any way to cross the border without actually having your passport (doubtful)? Thank you for your answers :)

You may want to contact the Embassy and re schedule your interview for AFTER your other trip. There's no way around it, they WILL keep your passport upon approval to stamp the visa.

Yes, I'll contact the embassy on Monday morning, I can't do it any earlier now... but I wonder if anybody has been in the same situation before. Thank you :)

How easy is it to reschedule the interview for after your trip? How soon after your trip is an interview spot available? If that is acceptable then I would reschedule for after your trip. If the next interview slot is several months away, then you will have to decide which is more important, the interview or your trip. Have you contacted your Government to see if you could get a temporary travel document that allows you to go on your trip while your passport is with the US Embassy? One thing I would not do is go to the interview with the hopes the US Embassy will return your passport in time for your trip. Explore all possibilities and choose the one that meets your needs.

Good luck,

Dave

Yes.. You can request a second passport with which to travel. Most European countries allow their businessmen to have a second passport for those instances where passports are retained at embassies/consulates waiting for visas.
