I guess it depends on how important it is that your or her family attends.

File in february, when you get approved have a civil ceremony in the US and invite all your family and friends for a big "real" wedding when they can make it out.

Wow, you give up easily!

you have a better suggestion? I've never done this before

Ummm - make other plans? Give it a shot anyway? Arrange to visit there before February? Arrange for her to come here on a tourist visa before February? Postpone the ceremony there? It sure doesn't seem your only option in the universe is to wait another year . . . but then again, everyone has their own set of circumstances.

I thik reversing the scenario is a good idea. Visit in Feb, file, if you don't make Aug deadline then bring her here and get married and then get your @ss back as soon as you can for the "ceremony" in vietnam. Is that doable?

YMMV

what is a K3?

due to school and my work, I cant go till february. Not much I can do about that. I have met her in person, but we werent serious at the time.

the reverse scenario sounds interesting, but kinda weird... so she would fly to america to get married then fly back home for another wedding, then back to america? That's very possible, I never thought of it like that.

that's a pair of extra plane tickets, but I guess doable. The problem is preparation will be really tight, since I dont have time for an extended vacation

A K3 is a visa for people who are already married. Meaning you could go there, get married, you return home and file the paperwork for her to come here as your spouse rather than your fiance. It's one potential option but you need to start by reading the guides at the top of the page so you understand the steps involved.

did a search and a user by the name of "Matt Stevens" did a k1 in vietnam about the exact same Time I will be doing it. his case finished in 5 months. If I get my case done in 9 months, then it's possible to go through. I hope they dont give me a hard time.

Keep in mind that matt to my knowledge filed pre IMBRA. Things have been moving at a slower pace generally since the implementation of the IMBRA. Much also depends on the service center you have to file through, amongst other things.

Just keep in mind that every case is different and there are a ton of variables. There is simply no way to anticipate the potential problems - take a look at my timeline for example - 5 1/2 months from filing to NOA2, 3 weeks to get through the NVC and we are once again stuck on hold (have been for almost one month) until we receive the paperwork from the consulate for the interview. And this is for a consulate that does not require petitioners to wait for an interview appointment date. That doesn't include additional RFEs, security or namechecks, false fingerprint hits, etc.

Since you have several months between now and Feb. it would be very wise to read the guides and forums and get yourself very very educated.

indeed, I will do that. I wonder if a 40K income is enough, or will I need a second job?

anyhow, further search:

I found another user "STL_???" almost 8 months for the completion. It's not totally out of the question... MUST STAY OPTIMISTIC

Thank you everyone for their input!

btw, I live in Los Angeles California!, so I make dirt right now, but I'm in love :)

40K is MORE than enough with regards to financial requirements.

However since you're in CA, you'll be filing through CSC, and that will definitely take you longer to get your approval.

The best ideas are either to marry her in Vietnam and file a K3/CR1 or to just bring her here to marry officially and then go back to Vietnam afterwards for a wedding ceremony for her parents/family.

You are asking for trouble by trying to plan this in a very constricted timeframe. On this matter, it is NOT the government who will bend to your timeline, but it is you who will have to bend to the government's timeline.

I see too many naive individuals who start out on this process thinking that somehow the government will expedite the processing simple because the petitioner's brother can't make it to a wedding date if it's not approved by a certain time. That is extremely naive and wishful thinking.

Try to give at least a year between when you file and when she'll finally get here. Great if she gets here sooner, but plan the timeline with a lot of slack.

Good luck.

poppscc,

To sum up, with the scenario you propose

- it is possible but not probable that you can bring your fiancee to the USA in August 2007, but a lot can change between now and then, maybe to your advantage or maybe to your disadvantage

- you cannot start the paperwork now, you can start it after you have next met your fiancee face to face.

Yodrak

I am engaged now, and need some pointers.

1. I have not seen my fiance within the last 2 years

2. I have a trip scheduled february 07.

3. The *informal* wedding is scheduled august 07

I cannot change those dates.

Is it possible for me to bring my wife home in august 07?

Could I start the paperwork now?

Comments or suggestions would be great!
