Do you really need pay stubs and income tax returns?

Hello everyone just looking at the instruction sheet for the I-134 and it looks like they are just asking for an offical bank statement that lists when the account was opened, total deposit over the last year and present balance.

Also they ask for the letter from your employer listing your employment history and salary

So where does income tax returns and pay stubs come into play? I don't see anything with USCIS that states you need to have those as supporting evidence?

It does mention submitting an income tax return only if you are self employed..

Are submitting pay stubs and income tax returns just overkill?

Here is what the embassy from the Philippines ask for

EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT. You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge or be a burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form will be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner’s ability to be financially responsible for you. You should also submit your petitioner’s most recent U.S. Federal income tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank statements may be included to substantiate the I-134. Download Form I-134 at http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis.

It depends on what the embassy of your country asks for. Look under Embassy Info of your country for more specific information.
