My friend has got the US citizenship, but yet to get US passport. But they have to travel to India for an emergency.. What should be the process? Can they travel on Green card and Indian passport?

Also, in general cases.. once we do get US passport, how long will it take to get Indian Visa or OCI card?

she doesn't have the GC anymore, at the Oath Ceremony your friend surrendered the GC and received the Naturalization Certificate at the end of the Ceremony. your friend can get an expedited US passport to enter the US.

I don't know the Indian laws so I cannot say if your friend can enter India with an Indian passport. but to return to the US he or she will need to have a US passport.

He should no longer have a green card since you are required to turn it in during the oath. He has to travel on his us passport. He can go to the local Seattle passport office and wait for his us passport. No idea on how long it takes to get an Indian visa.

Congrats to ur friend...the process is quite simple...first of all he should have surrendered his green card at oath ceremony..then he should apply for expedite service for US passport. Then he has to surrender his Indian passport. Check travisa outsourcing website for directions to renunciate Indian passport...make sure u check necessary documents required that has to be submitted.. That process takes 3 weeks. He will receive a letter from Indian consulate along with his Indian passport cancelled. Then he can apply for Indian visa or OCI or PIO card. I hope this helps If it's in NY then their phone # is (212) 754-9900... Good luck nd pls update

unfortunately she has to attend for immediate family funeral (should be there in a day or two). Seems like a complicated process at this point..

After taking the US Citizenship you can travel up to 90 days with your indian passport to india. After that if you use indian passport for travel they will charge a fine. Not sure what is the amount you can check on the indian consulate website. In this case you can travel up to 90 days on your indian passport. Getting the OCI can take up to 90 days from the date of approval.
