Traveling back and forth during process...

We're just about to send out the Packet #3, and presumably will get my interview date shortly thereafter.

The situation is we're looking to settle in Denver. I'm from Montreal. We go ack and forth for a week or two a couple of times a year, but my question is:

  • If I go there to spend time, say a month, and come back in time for the interview, does that mess with the process at all?
  • Would I be making the process longer/more difficult by traveling back and forth?

Confused, but desperately want to be there for leisure and sporting purposes right now! Just one of my top hiking, rock-climbing, kayaking destinations...but every time we go it's such a short visit! I just want some extra time to get to do these things! But...I don't know if I can do that and continue with the process while me, myself, being there!

Ideas? Experiences?

Thank you!

:)

I think it should be fine. The next available interview date for Montreal (as of yesterday) is in 60 days so you have plenty of time. I don't personally have experience with this myself, but I can't see why you being in the States would slow the process down. Packet 4 is usually sent via snail mail (in Vancouver, they do email it to you if you request it, but I'm not sure about Montreal) and is basically just a letter saying that all your documents have been approved and you can now book your medical and interview. That being said, if you want to know the status of your application and aren't home to receive Packet 4, you can call DOS (http://travel.state.gov/visa/about/how/how_1463.html) and they will tell you if Packet 4 was sent to you yet. If they say that it has, then you can book your medical (go to the Montreal consulate page for nearby medical clinics) and interview (done online). Hope that helps and have a great trip!! :)

What krikit said. Most of us visited without an issue, myself included. You just want to bring prof of ties to Canada to help show you intend to return.

Nice to see another Canadian moving to CO! Let me know if I can offer you any Colorado specific advice :)

No, it doesn't slow down the process. All the Canadians have done/do it regularly. Just make sure you carry proof of ties.

Moving from K-1 Process to the Canada regional forum.

What kind of proof of ties should I provide?

My job is in the travel industry and people come and go, even for months at a time... I doubt that counts as a tie to Canada, seeing as they are very loose in their terms...

Here is a link with some good information. Additionally, carrying a copy of the visa application and NOA has been of benefit to a few Canadians. Your best proof is remaining truthful. No evasive answers and definitely no lies. There is nothing illegal in what you are doing so you have that confidence on your side.
