Successful CR-1 interview in Montreal

Well I'm back from my 3 day trip to Montreal.

I got to the embassy about 7;30 and a guard was outside checking out a delivery van parked there so I asked if I could go in. He looked t my interview letter and said go in and thru security. After that I went downstairs and there were about 6 people already waiting. At 8:oo o'clock they took us up in the elevator

(I went to the back and was first out), turnded left and sat in front of window 14 and waited for it to open. I was first to get my number - she only wanted to see the interview letter. Sat and waited for awhile and my number was called, went to window indicated on board. The man told my my K3 visa will be cancelled and thy will return the papers. He asked for my letter, passport, express post envelope and photos. Asked me how we met and went over the DS230. Then I had to go back and wait again. My number was called and I went to a little room. The lady told me to put my stuff on the chair and asked when we met, when we decided to get married, had I had any problems with the law or crossing the border or applied for immigration before. She then took my fingerprints. Then had to swear an oath that everything I sent in and said there was the truth. She gave back my original birth and marriage certificates and told me I was approved. I was back on the street at 9:15.

It was so easy

They didn't ask for any more papers or proof of relationship - just letter, passport, envelope and photos.

Now a little about Montreal. I stayed at Novotel Center. It's very nice and about a 20 minute walk (short person with heels) from the embassy. I got it on Hotwire for 78.00 a night.

I took the Aerobus into the city. Catch it outside the terminal at bus stop #7. There is akiosk where you buy your tickets -about $22. round trip. It stopped at a few hotels on the way to the bus terminal. Then you get on a hotel shuttle bus. There's just one shuttle for allthe hotels. The ride into the city was half an hour and the shuttle took another hour to get me to my hotel.. In the morning, on my way to the embassy I walked passed the Sheraton which was one of the stops. It was only 2 short blocks from Novotel. If I had known I would have got off and walked to my hotel. For anyone using this service check out the Aeorobus web site to see if it stops at a hotel near where you are staying and get out and walk to save yourself a lot of time. When I left on Sat. I walked to the Sheraton and caught the bus directly to the airport.

THe whole trip went smooth - even catching the Greyhound to Thunder Bay at 2:30 am. Glad I did because it was snowing like crazy on the ride home yesterday. Really hate the bus though. Lots of characters on it.

After my interview I went to St Catherines Street to shop. Iwanted to go to old Montreal but it started raining really bad so just went to the underground shopping mall. Great shoppping in Montreal and tons of restaurants everywhere.

When I got home I found out my aunt and God Mother had died on the weekend. She had suffered from ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease) for 5 years so it was a blessing. I'm glad I got to visit here last week.

I hope this info helps someone. Tom is coming up next week to visit and get me. My house is still on the market. Don't know what we'll do about that yet.

Thank you everyone here who helped me thru this. There were people at the embassy who did it without the hellp of a site like VJ and it took them way longer.

They say that when one door closes, another opens. Your aunt passed from this life at the same time as you are starting a new one. Congratulations on your visa and condolences on your godmother.

As for your house, you may be able to leave it in the hands of a good real estate agent. It might be easier to sell empty. You'd only have to come back to sign papers at the closing.

If you'll be in the States for the American Thanksgiving, you'll have so much to be grateful for this year!

Congrats!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
