Medical in Toronto

I am losing sleep at night worrying about all the things that come with the K1 and immigration process in general.

My biggest concern is the medical exam for my fiance. I am the USC. He is going to be going for his medical in Toronto. He was born with a hole in his heart. (I filled it of course when we met 11 years ago :innocent: ) But he has a pacemaker now to make sure everything keeps beating like it should.

Do you think this will cause an issue? Obviously when they do the chest x-ray they will see the big hunk of metal in his chest. I don't want him to fail the medical because of something he had since birth. He goes to his regular pacemaker appts and everything is going great like always. He actually has an appt at his pacemaker doctor in Toronto next week. Is there anything he should get from this regular doctor to bring to the medical appt for the visa?

Any advice would be great! Thank you :)

I really don't think this will cause an issue. The most important things are if he has a contagious disease (like TB, aids or syphilis). As long as he has the condition under control it should be fine. He might be warned that he will have to find a doctor in the US to manage his condition. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a note from his pacemaker doc saying everything is fine.

I was told I needed a letter from my DR. if I had any surgeries and explain what. the doctor had to list the diagnosis and the prognosis. A letter from the Doctor will be needed.

If they require the same information. I was told this last year.

Hope this helps

I was just in Toronto for the medical on wednesday. Here is a run down of the things they asked and or looked for. They went through the basic questions about your previous medical history, looking for things that would be contagious as Peachy said (hiv, syphilis, etc.). They may be interested in the fact that he has had an "interesting" previous medical history. Just have him ask his doctor for a brief medical history and list his ongoing treatments etc. At the medical they checked my breathing and listened to my heart. Took my blood pressure and documented my weight and height. The findings of the xray should go hand in hand with the medical history. I wouldn't be concerned. Just encourage him to be honest about his medical history with the examiner. They are very friendly and understanding. Don't worry!

What others said above. His chronic medical condition will not cause him to fail the medical, as long as he brings in a letter from his current physician documenting it. At the consulate, the IO's biggest concern will be that he continues to have access to medical care/insurance when he arrives in the US. They are legally obligated to be reasonably sure that the intending immigrant will not become a public charge, so they will want to make sure that he is protected against the possibility of a sudden six digit hospital bill followed by bankruptcy.

DON'T PANIC

"It says wonderful things about the two countries [Canada and the US] that neither one feels itself being inundated by each other's immigrants."

It's important for his specialist to outline the long term prognosis. The medical doctor will ask him if he's had any surgeries, so he should be ready to hand over any paperwork from his specialists. Shouldn't be a problem though as long as he's taking care of himself.

Can my family doctor sum up my various health issues/treatment or do I need to get separate letters from each specialist? They send him a summary of the appointments when I visit them so he should know what my current treatment/prognosis is - plus it can take forever to see the specialist versus my family doctor.

A letter from your GP should be fine, I'd imagine. When I went for my medical in Toronto I told the doctor about my condition and he didn't even ask to see any paperwork I brought.
