I have read here that some members requested their police certificates before receiving their package from the Embassy...but today, Zhenya went to the Ministry of Internal Affairs office in Nizhny and a man told her that she needed to wait for the "Petition from the Embassy" before requesting the certificate.

Does this sound correct? We wanted to get it out of the way...any info you can give would be appreciated.

I requested mine without any problems.. They asked me what's the purpose and I said for the US embassy, so they wrote on the form I filled to request the police certificate "leaving the country". I would certainly ask them to show any law provision that prohibits a Russian citizen to request a governmental service. Here is the link for required docs to request certificate, sorry, but it's only in Russian. Nowhere it's asked for "petition from embassy".

Tell her to watch out for some official looking to get a bribe. It sounds like someone didn't want to be bothered with her request and possibly knows that she plans to leave for marriage. She should try again at a different time. Maybe that guy won't be on duty.

Zhanna was able to get her police documents from Baskotostan, and Sverdlovsk oblasts. It took about a month from both police agencies.

I am relatively sure that the criminal report is good for 6 months. Just leave yourself a big enough window. Just in case something gets held up, you can get another one but obviously you have to pay again.

Thanks to all for this good news. We were worried that Lara ordered her report this week and will probably not be until

March or April until the Interview. I was concerned that she would have to go through the request again for the Moscow

Embassy if the report was older than six months.

At least she doesn't have to do the Invitation letter anymore. That is done with since August 1. All

Visa's are now valid for three years and all Visa's are multi entry. I'll be going back

to Russia on a Homestay.

Now if we can only get the Post Office to work a bit better.....

My wife obtained hers well in advance of any mailings from the Embassy. They are good for one year.
