I also read about maintaining a P100 balance, but I believe that is more of a suggestion than a policy.

I've kept 2 Smart Buddy SIMM cards, set to roaming, alive since 2003 while in the US by sending a P30 autoload every 30 days. They receive any SMS messages for free, and I use Gmail SMS or Chikka to reply.

When I'm in the PI, I load with P300 cards. The load expires after 90 days, but the SIMM will remain good for 120 days after the load expires, so sometime during that 120 day period I'll top up the SIMMs again.

It had/has plenty of load on it...well over 300 (the balance I had left when I returned); I am thinking I damaged the sim somehow because it wont work with the junk phone I always use it with nor will it work with my unlocked regular smartphone...hopefully NOA2 comes soon and wont have to worry about ways to stay in touch much longer.

Same with us. My wife's worked great until a few months ago. It took Smart over a year to deactivate it. I'm sure I read it didn't have to be re-loaded. Maybe it's a newer policy like Scott said. We had to have her family send her a new one that had been roamed...I'll keep this one loaded now.

I'm using smart for my roaming at first i thought that my simcard won't work LOL

I tried to ask a friend of mine to call a csr from smart and ask why the heck my simcard won't work as a roaming.

Then the csr told me i need to change my phone settings network manually in order to get a partner signal and thats it!

I check my phone and configure all the settings luckily it worked! Now i can receive text from PH with no hustle :)
