I'm actually thinking of resigning from work once NVC sends our papers to the USEM here in Singapore coz I have to return to Manila to prepare the requirements. I don't think it's ethical for me to take a leave from work to fix those and then resign when I return. Besides I don't know how long it will take me to complete the requirements and have an engagement party.

If you think I'm making a wrong decision, pls feel free to oppose me. :) I'm still on the fence about everything.

When you hold your passport and visa in your hands. Any sooner might be too soon. Play it safe. Good luck!

It's a tough call, and all depends on how readily you can take leave from your job, as well as how easy/expensive it is to travel back and forth. But I agree with the advice above, wait until you have a visa and perhaps a flight date, in most cases (applies more to those who work & reside in the PI while waiting). But even in your case, what if you resign, then events cause your case to take 6 months or more longer than you expected? In our case, we had to wait almost 9 additional months between when she COULD have arrived and when she actually did.

If I may ask, what caused the delay of 9 months? Thanks for the advice, I need to talk about it with my boss if I could get a leave and give less than a month's notice if ever I get approved. It's just that my fiance wants us to fly to US together so I'm rushing.

In our case, it was just bad timing. I was deploying to Afghanistan, and live in Alaska. It just made more sense to slow down the process, not rushing to get her here, because it didn't make sense to get her here and then leave her alone in a new country, and in one of the harshest cold climates in the US. She was anxious to get here, as was I, but we made the tough decision to wait, and it worked out better for her, I believe.
