Hello my wife is filing for me and i actually have my interview coming up this month at the US embassy in Kingston Jamaica. My one problem though is that i am required to take in an affidavit of support when i go to the interview as my wife did not have a sponsor for me at the time we sent our things in to the NVC and she could not be the sponsor as her income did not meet the poverty guideline. We have been successful in finding a sponsor but she is in no way related to me or my wife, she is just a distant family friend so i wondered if that would be a problem. Also she has no kids no dependents so the household size would be 2 after she sponsors me can someone tell me what is the exact amount needed to sponsor a household size of 2? i heard it was 18,000-19,000 so i am confused but anyway my sponsor makes about $100,000 a year so is that enough to cover me? i would also like to know if these are all i need to recieve from her to take with me to my interview:

Copies of tax returns for past two years

copies of W2s

Recent Pay stubs

Job letter

Proof of American citizenship(naturalization certificate)

is that all i need from her? i am just very nervous i dont want anything to go wrong because that's the only thing that could mess me up at my interview please someone let me know if i am missing anything where the affidavit is concerned. sorry for such a long post i am new to this so feeling a little clustered. my wife tries to explain it to me but i sometimes get confused.

I was also told i should be on the safe side and bring extra copies of my police record, birth certificate and marriage liscence incase they misplace it on the day of interview is this true?

That's enough, income wise.

They'll probably want you to explain what your relation is to this person and exactly why they would want to sponsor your entry.

Take proof of your relationship: photos, logs, etc, whatever you need to prove that your marriage is bona fide.

Not sure on the specifics of Kingston, will let someone more versed advise you there.

ok thank you for ur answer.

i think i would be able to give them a pretty good answer if they wanted to know why she is willing to sponsor me.....oh yes i will be taking photos of our engagement party, regular days out, wedding and birthdays spent together. phone records, letters, and a few copies of emails to each other plus valentines day post cards. she is also expecting so i am thinking of taking the ultrasound pictures and proof of pregnancy with me as well as copy of her passport stamps to show she was actually in jamaica with me at the time she concieved. i cant think of anymore evidence lol

Copy of passport or BC. All of this should have been sent to NVC, but having a opy on hand if needed would be fine.

We sent all of those documents to NVC pertaining to myself and my wife but we didnt have a sponsor at that time so i was told i could take in the affidavit with me to the interview. i kno the sponsor has to give me a copy of her naturalization certificate or passport but was wondering if i needed her birth certificate as well.

The birth certificate is used to establish US citizenship. (Born in the USA) because she was naturalized, that will suffice.

Hey there, just recently went through the same. The Co-Sponsor could be anybody, and they don't have to be related to you. If he/she makes $100,000 you are well covered, she could probably have 30 people in her household and sponsor you and they would still approve it. The income requirement for a two person household is exactly $18,912. None of my family members could co-sponsor, so my coworker did mine for me, and my fiance got approved. Bring extra originals or copies if you don't have the originals of anything you can. I had already turned in my original birth certificate to the Vermont Service center, and when my fiance got to his interview at the Embassy in Kingston, they asked him for it and I was glad I sent it to him. Better to be on the safe side, because if they are missing any document that they need, they will hold up your visa. That is what happened to us. My fiance got approved a week ago, paid the DHL fee, and then they called him 3 days later and told him he needed to make an appointment to bring them a form that they failed to take during his interview in June.

For a Naturalized Citizen, a copy of the Naturalization Certificate or Passport data page is needed for evidence of citizenship.

I can see how you interpreted my response as birth certificate would suffice. But I was replying to this statement

i kno the sponsor has to give me a copy of her naturalization certificate or passport but was wondering if i needed her birth certificate as well.

She already knew to get copy of naturalization certificate or passport. She asked about the BC. Then my statement was about the BC is used to establish US citizenship(born in USA) Because she was naturalized, that "her previous statement "would suffice.

Next time I will make sure to be concise with my wording.

You were actually too precise. The use of the pronoun "that" with no other noun than birth certificate in the sentence, that you were talking about the birth certificate is the only literal way to interpret what you wrote. My suggestion than would be to add the noun you mean to use instead of the pronoun.
