My fiancee has never been married, has no children out wedlock. However, she has been told by some friends that she still needs to provide a Marital Status Certificate, is this accurate? She figures better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it so she we will go see her Amphur tommorow. Just curious, thanks.

According to the US Embassy - Bangkok website, she would only need one if she has a child born out of wedlock. So, no.

This is something new or at least they didnt require this during my case.

As far as saying no I hope you are ready for the future shopping trips where you will have no voice. My husband has learned to just drive us to the stores and stand back. We have our own bank cards.

Looks like they updated the process. When we went through in 2009, we had to have a certificate from the Amphur saying that she was single and free to marry. If she is near her Amphur and can get it easily, might as well have it. We had to make a special trip at the time to get it. Pain in the butt.

My fiancee is in the same situation. Her friends say they might ask for this and "figures better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it".

I can't say no, because if she is right and we don't have it.... helpsmilie.gif

I am well prepared, while Thai women may be perceived as docile and unassuming, I learned long ago that is for show. When we stay in Bangkok, we stay in Sukhumvit, Soi 23, just down the street from the 21 mall so I know what to expect. I brought her a Coach bag last year from the mall where I live, can't wait to take her there, South Coast Plaza!! Bank card to issue soon!!
