Hello all... my fiance just informed me that he had read a review of the consulate and somebody said there were payphones inside the consulate?? Is this true or did he read wrong?? I was under the impression he would have no contact with the outside world until he left the interview...

Hmm...now that I remember my husband did mention he tried to call me from inside the consulate to give me the good news while I waited for him at the hotel. I had my phone in silent, so I did miss his call. The phone inside uses TELMEX calling cards. So make sure your fiance buys one.

I was under the impression he would have no contact with the outside world until he left the interview...

No contact, unless they don't like your American passport photo's. Then your allowed to scamper across the street with a hint of panic to re-take your photo's.

But I digress. I am so thankful that our K-1 interview was nothing more than a mere formality.

Caity, your SO will do fine.

By the way, I checked for my copy of the form with the # thingy on it and did not have one. It kind of surprised me how little they actually kept.

For proof of income, keep in mind I am self-employed, they only kept a copy of my '07 return, and

an original letter from my accountant stating my occupation and a summary of my previous returns.

They returned both original I-134's I had done, my '06 and '05 tax returns.

You will be fine. Heck, you have actually read this whole thread, just like I did. :star:

Hey everyone, i have a question. How long can Alfredo and I be married in the U.S before we apply for the AOS? Just a question because the AOS costs 1000+ dollars i believe with all the fees with the fingerprinting and everything, and we just dont have it right now. Let me know what you think or what you have read.

The is not set time to apply for the AOS if you are a K1. The only rule is you have to be married within the 90 days from entering the US. Just make sure you keep a copy of your marriage license with you once your I94 expires because that is proof you complied with USCIS rules. He won't be able to do anything like get a license or work or travel outside the US until you get your AOS, EAD, etc..

Here is a good VJ link that answers a lot questions about the K-1 Visa timeline:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow

As mentioned at the link posted above, you are expected to file your AOS paperwork prior to you K-1 visa expiring. The visa expires 90 days after your SO's entry into the U.S.

Therefore, the safe answer is that you must submit within 90 days. Now, exceptions are made for people who go beyond, but I have not researched as to whether it is easy to get a waiver or not. Your biggest obstacle would be having a valid reason for the delay.

You and any co-sponsors, are vouching to the government that your SO will not be a hardship case. So I am reasonably sure that financial pressure would not be an acceptable excuse.

Your mileage may vary,

Brian

It is a gray area about K1, according to the rules and some of the other long time members you only have to marry before the 90 days, a waiver is needed only if you marry after the 90 days. Applying for AOS does not have to be done within that timeframe. You wont be out of status as long as you marry within the 90 days but you are stuck at home with no way of working, driving, school, anything until you start the AOS process.

Alright... well Angel is beginning his trip to Ciudad Juarez in about an hour. He's taking a bus to Mexico City and with the time change in Mexico, he'll be there by 5:00 AM. Then he has to make his way to Toluca and wait and wait until his flight at 4:00 PM. He should be in Ciudad Juarez by 6:30 PM. He's nervous, I'm nervous... it's all good. I pretend I'm not nervous though- for him at least. I just pray he makes it to CDJ safely and that the rest is a piece of cake.

Thanks for answering all my questions this week- I may be back on here with more if Angel asks me questions once he gets there and I don't have the answer :P

Take care everyone- hope everyone's weekends are going well!

Gaby&Talbert and YGandMAT,

I mailed the AOS, EAD, and AP last week but now realize that I might get an RFE since I only sent 2 photos of my husband. Now I'm reading the forums and it looks like I should've sent 6 or 8 total! How many did you guys send?

Guess this is a lesson for future readers...

Oh, just did another search. Looks like some people didn't get an RFE just for sending 2 photos.

Hi there,

We were K3's so we sent them 4 photos, 2 for AOS and 2 for EAD. For K1's they need 6 pictures (since you have AP). I was under the impression they would use these photos for the green card and EAD but they do not. The pictures they use for your GC and EAD are the one they take you on the day of your biometrics appointment. Go figure. Let's hope they don't send you an RFE, but with USCIS, you never now. GOOD LUCK and I hope you don't get an RFE.

Well- Angel made it safely to Ciudad Juarez, and since Mexico changed their clocks back an hour last night, CDJ is now 2 hours behind my time. Which stinks, because that means my day will feel even longer while waiting for him to call me. gahhhh. Oh well, he's there and we are going to get this visa!!

I remember those feelings Caity, though I must admit that I had a reasonable calmness once I got to Juarez. It was kind of like, what will be will be.

Those pics of Ronin's on p.121 were priceless. I remember pulling in town about 11 p.m, not knowing where I was. Then I saw some some landmarks in Ronin's pics and it was as if I had been there before. I remember laughing as I saw the famous blue tarp over the rental chair area.

Everything will go smoothly, Caity.
