---UpDatE---

I'm in Juarez right now. It is as hot as a desert over here! 92 today and 94 the next 3 days. It was pretty funny though about deciding whether to take a flight into El Paso, Texas or directly to Juarez. It cost me $231 to fly into El Paso and between 600 and 1000 to fly into the Juarez airport. I went with landing at the El Paso airport which was a very good decision. The taxi to the bridge (there are 4 bridges) cost me $20 and I walked about 1/8 of a mile across the bridge with my backpack and duffel bag. I was expecting a lot of people walking from El Paso to Juarez but I was the only one (it was Saturday at 1pm). I got to the other side and I was wondering where I would be thoroughly harrassed and searched? I walked into the nearest building and asked them, "Is there somewhere I need to go, I am coming from El Paso into Juarez?" The lady told me NO and I walked out kinda smiling because I found it to be very strange that they weren't going to search me or document my visit. So I walked out the door and continued walking and walked straight into Juarez without being searched or asked any questions. I live 20 minutes from the Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Canada border and have crossed many times, it is a very big ordeal every single time.

Anyhow, the city is not dangerous at all. Not even one bit. It is just like any other city, as long as your not in the wrong place at the wrong time you will be completley fine.

Good luck everyone that is close to getting their visas!

---Bringing a my fiancee's mother to the US---

My fiancee is very close with her mother and would like to bring her legally to the US. I hear that after getting permanent resident status we can apply for her to come her permanently...

1) How long until my fiancee gets permanent resident status after entering the country approximately (1 year, 2 years, 10 years?)

2) How long after applying for her mother will she get her visa (I heard it takes a while, but not sure what a while is?)

3) Is it guaranteed that her mother will be able to come or is it a 50/50 chance?

THANKS

thegreatgate - I'm so glad to know you walked over to the other side! That's what I've been planning to do and hadn't read anything about anyone doing that yet, so I'm glad you did that so I know what to expect.

As far as your question about your fiancee's mother, I haven't really read much on that, but I think the "Bringing family members of US Citizens to America" http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showforum=111 is a good place to start. I don't know if Diana has to be a citizen first, and if it's only spouses & children that LPRs can petition...

Oh, I just searched "petition parent," and it looks like she has to be a USC before she can petition her mom (and you two would have to be married at least 3 yrs before she can apply for naturalization) : http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=132985

Are you looking at the website, because my link to the website for the fiance package has not worked for months.

I still think you need both, but I was curious about that too.

I look forward to the answer.

Well my second petition approval occurred last week. :star:

I hope October is still possible. nm123, when are you going? Our files should have been in the same box, but alast, I can only hope the the fiance packet will go out by mid-September.

Does anybody who has received the fiance packet, have the ability to send me a pdf of the spanish version? I would feel much better about rushing through this if my SO had a copy to review over the next four weeks before the actual one was received.

At least it feels good to be back on track. :star:

Juarez is the correct answer. NO matter what city you list, your approved petition will be forwarded to Juarez.

Actually, your initial petition is placed either with California or Vermont. Then all approved petitions are forwarded to Juarez for processing.

My fiance is from La Barca, but works in Guadalajara. You have not lived until you have been to the local wrestling matches at the Guadalajara Arena. It felt like I was in a large high school gym from the 1950's.

cici - You DO need that one, because that one creates the barcode on the right-hand side and when it prints, also a barcode on the 2nd or 3rd page.

GRRRR I dont know exactly how to reply to a post here so i'll try again

Thanks Brian for your reply. I know this VJ web site sure has helped me. Is there anyway to add you or maybe get your email? I'm sure you have advise that will greatly aid and ease my processing strees and frustrations.

Just as a point of interest...I LOVE GDL! It is such a cool place! I've been to the futball games, to the downtown square during holy week, EVERY tourist trap and attraction, and had a blast. I dont know where La Barca is but I will find out tommorrow tonight when I call my fiance. It might be benificial for our "wives to be" to contact each other???

I have a MOUNTAIN of paper work all over my livingroom floor tonight that I'm trying to get together to send off Monday. I never thought it would be so detailed and envolved! My fiance has a beautiful little girl by the name of Michelle who will come here also. They both came here a few months ago and LOVED it! Trying to get everything done correctly for the both of them has been sort of stressful but it will be worth it all! Heck, it took almost 5 months just to get all the paperwork just to file the petition.

Anyhow thanks so much for the information. IT HELPED!

I Am Mello

You son of a gun..............that was the week I had circled on my calender when I was approved the first time.

It would have been nice to have had a wing man. :star:

So is there a need for both a 156 and and 156K. The embassy website only lists the 156K as being needed ? If it is needed I hope it is in the packet.

I am surprised that when you read the embassy site, it only list like two or three items and nothing about bring supporting evidence of relationship or being able to answer questions. Is it just me?
