co-sponsor problems...

Ok, we require a co-sponsor which we have BUT apparantly she mailed me all the info to me last saturday (02/18/06) and I've still not received the paperwork - I know its only been a little over a week but I can't help but freak out! Whenever Roshon posts me anything its usually here within 5 days. He just told me today (grrrr) that he's a little concerned she's just put it in a post box without going to the post office and getting it sent properly to England  . He told her what to do (its him mom) but she is one of them people that just does not listen, she does not take things seriously!! It took her 3 weeks to sort out all the paperwork so I do not know what we are going to do if its lost in the post.....I just have a really bad feeling about it.

Has anyone from the UK self sponsored? I know I've read on here that you can if you have a certain amount of savings. Has anyone done it? I've tried looking on the embassy website but I can't find anything. I've also just emailed the embassy. Can anyone give me any help or advice on this?

My interview is in 3 weeks :crying:

Thanks

Sam

Don't panic. It's probably just a minor postal delay.

Self-sponsorship for a K visa, as far as we know, is a matter of individual discretion among individual COs and may or may not hold water in any given interview. I'd liken it to "can my fiance visit while we're processing the K-1 visa?" Well, maybe and maybe not. It depends on very individual and specific circumstances.

The few "self-sponsorships" that have gone successfully through London were able to prove liquid assets of at least several thousand pounds. If you can prove those kinds of assets (and not everyone can), it could surely help your case, but I'd never tell you or anyone that it would certainly be enough. Err on the side of caution as far as support issues go, particularly when you're dealing with something like "self-sponsorship" that is highly subjective and not official policy.

Thanks Pax

I keep praying its a postal delay. I feel so mad because his mom just acts like its some trivial matter like sending a birthday card. Roshon asked her to send it priority (so its gets her in 4-5 days) and she just didn't bother because "its ages till she needs them" AGGHHHHHH! I am so grateful that she is doing this for us but I really wanna yell at her!! We keep saying to her that the support forms are pretty much the only reason I'd have problems getting the visa but she's just like "oh that nice, so whats the weather like!!!?" If I didn't know her better I'd feel quite unloved, but its just the way she is!!

Sorry just had to RANT!

I guess the only thing we can do is give it a few more days.....then maybe get her to send it me all again

I'm sure it will be fine! (F) Seriously, international mail can just be a bit slow. Do you know how she sent it?

well, Roshon is calling her later to see.... I'm praying she at least sent it Global Airmail because at least I should get it this week sometime- thats how I used to mail my mum and it took about a week or a little more. I looked up the mailling posiblities on the US postal service website and I hope to high heaven that she didn't send it global economy - "If your bottom line is your top concern, consider Global Economy Mail service. It lets you ship Letter-post and Parcel Post to nearly every country in the world at low rates. The service is best suited for deliveries that are not time-sensitive. " err it takes 4-6 weeks.

I did have more faith in her than that....but can't help being a little concerned. After all she originally labelled the envelope with my street name (no number) and just England (no town name, postcode etc)!!!

Oops ranting again!

(oh and Roshon is getting blamed to for not taking care of it properly  )

Everything I send James usually takes almost 2 weeks even though I send it 4-7 day priority, so give it a little more time. If it did get lost in the mail does she have copies of everything? Don't worry too much, international mail takes awhile, often things get caught up in customs and get delayed! I hope it arrives soon!!! I know I was paranoid about my papers making it safely to England as well.

Sam,

Every time Christine has sent me some thing, it has taken ATLEAST 2+ weeks to get to me.

About the self-sponsor thing, I very recently emailed London to say that I will have atleast £10,000 cash to take with me to USA and whether it will be enough for self sponsoring, they said its enough.

However I have read on another website, i think britishexpats or something that anything above £3000 is fine but like Pax said "is a matter of individual discretion among individual COs and may or may not hold water in any given interview."

Relax, your interview date is March 22, I am sure you will get the documents well in time.

Thanks everyone :) I've chilled out a little now and accepted the fact that it might not be here for another week or so. Roshon called his Mom and she mailed it properly at the post office and wrote the correct address.....so I'll just have to stop being so '#######' as Roshon keeps calling me ( )!

jmwaziri - I'll have around the same amount......thats made me feel a little better although like everyone says its up to the individual who does the interview.

Hopefully it'll be here this week (or the next  )!

Thanks again :star:
