it is my understanding that "touched" means someone in the USCIS picked up your file for whatever reason. They picked up the file to move it to their desk. They picked up the file to review it. They picked up to put in the box. You see the "touch" because your file was scanned. Before employees work on your file, they have to scan your file. This logs the file's location in the system. Depending where you are in the process, you can kind of get a hint why the file is being touched. I choose to ignore it because I feel I will go insane of waiting. I do something else until the time comes. I hope this helps.

Online at USCIS. But it means nothing. Mine wasn't touched for months, then it was. I wouldn't waste your time even looking at it, because even it it IS touched, you don't know what for or what it means to your case.

There are some things you need to understand about the "touch":

To see if a touch was logged on your file, go to https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/login.jsp click on check case status and input your receipt #.

According to some members, some files never show any touches or even updates. Some members have reported that their lovedones already have visas and their case status still says initial review.

And like everyone will tell you, waiting for a touch is just something else to drive you more insane.

Hope the info helps........ Good luck on your journey............ God bless

Timeline

Like the others have said, a touch really doesn't mean much. Most cases aren't touched until they are adjudicated, so by the time you see you are touched, you see that you have been approved (or not).

In any case, to do so you must make an account on uscis.gov.

After you've made your account you Go to www.uscis.gov. In the top left corner of the page you will type in your case number and hit the "check status" button. On the next page you click on "sign-in to my account".

Then you click the drop down menu and select "Customer"

Then put in your user name and password and then click "submit"

It will then bring you to a status page.

The date in the "last updated" column is the last time it was "touched". Like I said, it will most likely be the date you got your NOA1 and will stay that way until your case is complete with USCIS. If that date ever changes, it means your case was "touched".

I find it much more rewarding to follow the "estimated dates" at the bottom of my timeline and to follow other people's timelines here on VJ. For instance, my timeline says that I should be adjudicated between August 3 and August 14 (or something). Lately the date has been getting closer and closer to the current date, meaning I should be hearing something soon!!! Also, by researching other people with similar cases as me (same Service center and visa type), I know that most people these days are getting approved a week or 2 before the estimated time on our timelines.

It's all a ####### shoot anyway. Things change in a blink of an eye and no one will know what EXACTLY is going to happen untill it happens.
