I am the beneficiary - United States from Australia

Your income nor debt matters for being approved for a K-1 visa. The petitioner needs to fill out the I-134 affidavit of support and prove he can support you at 125% of the poverty level or more. The USC is not asked about their debts either.

You would likely have to inquire with the owner of the loan on if it can be transferred and/or if there are any penalties incurred.

Do know that the petitioner (the US Citizen) has to show proof of ongoing income and/or enough assets to provide for the beneficiary during this process. If I recall correctly, your fiancé is currently incarcerated until next year and you have two children, correct? He will likely need to secure a co-sponsor if he doesn't have enough assets/income to support you and your family. Also, you won't be able to work right away with the K-1, so if you are planning to take out quite a substantial loan, be sure you have a plan on how to pay it off.

I kept paying my loan (from Aus) when I came to the US.

It is still in my name in Australia and am still with my Australian bank.

The only thing that sucks is if I have US money and convert it to Australian the AUD is stronger so I get less bang for my buck!

Edit: Oh it should not have any impact on your K-1 :blush:
