I have been married for almost 2 years now and i have not changed my last name. I always told my husband i would change it once he got here (assuming he would be here by now) but i would like to keep it the same as my kids until then. Now that my husbands case has been sent back to USCIS i am wondering if they think we are not in a real relationship and we dont want any ties to each other after this process is over (we also dont have any children together yet). would it be a good idea to get my name changed now? will this help or hurt the process?

any advice is most appreciated.

It's the 21st century, USCIS knows that women don't change their name as much as they used to

Changing it now looks desperate

Better to find out what really happened and correct that, changing your name will not ensure anything

Good luck

My hubby and I do not have the same last name, and I know many other couples who have not changed names. I don't think it will help or hurt your case. Might slow it down if you have to put in a name change for yourself.

As the poster above said, check with USCIS for the reason.

Good luck to you both!

I did not change my last name. In this day and age a good majority of women keep their last names. I am married to a Muslim and in his culture women do not change their last names when they marry, they keep their family name. I don't think it proves that you love him any more or any less(my love or my husband is immeasurable). The proof is in your relationship not in a name. You need to find out the reason for his case being sent back and I think I can safely say it wasn't because you don't share the same last name. I really wish you the best.

I do want to eventually change my last name but I do agree that if I change it now it will look desperate and may lead to extra paperwork.

Thank you everyone for your advice and best of luck :)
