Today my husband passed his interview!!!!!! It almost got postponed but we didn't give up......

He was originally scheduled for yesterday at 9:20am in Norfolk, VA. As we watched the storm on Monday, we checked the website and it said that the office was going to open up on Tuesday (our appointment day) on a two-hour delay. So, we drove there and waited for a few hours before we realized that we misread the website and it was actually closed that day. The website also said that the appointment would be rescheduled and no action would be needed on our part; however, walk-ins would be taken on a case-by-case basis. There were two other couples in the parking lot waiting with us who were scheduled for interviews too. We all decided that we would show back up in the morning and take our chances of walking in. We exchanged numbers to keep each other posted and left.

This morning, when my husband and I arrived at 8:00am, I saw one of the couples at the front of the line about to enter...when I saw the security guard look at their appointment letter and then let them in, we were so excited. We got in line and then we were let in on our previous day appointent letter as well. I immediately text the other couple and let them know we got in.....they were on their way.

The USCIS workers were very friendly and did a great job of working us all in between their regularly scheduled appointments. All three spouses that were being interviewed passed today....we were all so excited.

My husband's interview was very thorough and the lady spent a lot of time going over his application. We had all necessary documentation and he answered questions regarding a business trip out of the country and some tax questions. Also, when we filled out the N400, we had forgotten to mention a "fix-it" ticket he got for a headlight that was out on our car but we remembered while reading other people's experiences on Visa Journey so my husband had went to the courthouse and got a certified copy of the dismissal....so when the lady got to that part of the application he told her about it and gave her the paper. She said it was good that he had that.

He was asked the current governor of our state, the first president of US, what do you show loyalty to when you become a citizen of US, what did Martin Luther King, Jr. do, name two US national holidays, and what was the main concern of the US during the Cold War. He was asked to read, "Where does the president live?" He was asked to write, "The president lives in the White House."

When he finished with everything, he was asked to sign some papers and was told he was being recommended for approval. She said her supervisor would look everything over and then make the final decision. If anything else was needed he would be contacted within the week otherwise he will receive his oath date in the mail.

We are so happy to be one small step away from the end of this journey. We will let everyone know when the oath date is once we get it.....We hope everyone has a speedy interview and oath. Persistence and patience pays off!!

I had my interview yesterday, everything went well, the officer asked me the first 6 questions and I got all correct. I think I was lucky, they were all easy ones

Now I have the problem that the officer said that the Oath ceremony will be probably scheduled for December. However, I am moving to Texas in a couple of weeks , I was hoping they would have same day ceremonies or at least within the week. I asked him if it was possible to get me in a ceremony sooner and he said that it was hard as the ones who schedule that are the courts, but that he was going to try to put me on the November 9th ceremony... So I have to wait.

If they have not scheduled me within the next few days I am afraid that I will have to transfer the application to Texas, so it will probably take a while as it changes even the service center.

My interview was scheduled for October 30th. The local office (Boston, Ma) was closed, so ALL interviews are now going to be placed on the next available date. I am sharing this with anyone who lives in the same area and maybe can share their experience and also tell us if you have received any notice form the USCIS. I called them the same day and the 1-800 line said it could be up to 4 months from now. I hope someone from the areas affected by the storm has better luck.

Hey Beantown.....we were in the same situation but down here in Norfolk, VA......ours was actually scheduled the same day as yours and our office was closed as well.....we took a chance and did a walk-in the next morning and they accepted us.......did you try to walk-in with your original appointment letter or did you only call? If you read up on this page, you will see where I put our experience....good luck....I hope you can walk-in, but if not, I really hope it will not actually the four months that you were told on the phone....

I don't see why not. It certainly won't hurt and it would be nice if the two of you were able to take your oaths at the same ceremony. I know that there were families taking their oaths together at my ceremony and if you explain the circumstances, unless there is a problem (which it doesn't sound like) I think they might try and accommodate your request. Good luck.

well, today my wife completed her oath and now is USC. However, my case is still in limbo. I had an infopass appointment in the morning in a hope that I would be able to convince the officer to schedule me for the same day oath with my wife. However, upon hearing that it only has just been past 2 weeks the interview, he refused to even do a simple query on my case - let alone trying to talk to someone about the scheduling part. I guess, I have no other option but to just wait...and wait...and wait.

My husband had his interview today. Everything went fine, except the interviewer said they were still waiting for the background check to be complete. She recommended him for approval, but I guess we still have to wait for the security check before they give the final approval. Anyone have any idea how long that could take?

Has anyone heard of this happening?

Thanks!

I think USCIS conducts N400 interview after the completion of all background checks? Maybe this is the practice in some district offices but not all offices? Anyway wish your husband best of luck!
