Packets 3 and 4 for K-3 (Colombia)

I have a copy of packets 3 and 4 for the K-1 visa to review. However, I filed for a K-3 for my wife. Does anyone know the differences in the packets for K-1 vs. K-3? Does anyone actually have a copy of packets 3 and 4 for a K-3 visa that they would be willing to share?

Thanks,

Mike

K1 (Fiance) and K3 (Spouse) are grouped into one classification: Non-Immigrant Visa

Therefore, when reviewing the information at http://bogota.usembassy.gov/wwwsnive.shtml I would *assume* that Packets #3 and #4 are the SAME for both K1 and K3 applicants.

Mike,

Like James, I would expect them to be the same. They are the same at the consulate that I am most familiar with. There's no difference in the requirements for the two visas beyond the stage of relationship issue (pre- v post-marriage) that causes them to have different designations.

Yodrak

I have a copy of packets 3 and 4 for the K-1 visa to review. However, I filed for a K-3 for my wife. Does anyone know the differences in the packets for K-1 vs. K-3? Does anyone actually have a copy of packets 3 and 4 for a K-3 visa that they would be willing to share?

Thanks,

Mike

Peter and all...

First of all -- a big Thanks again to you Peter for the Packet3 , it's a very good guide for those of us still waiting or have never recieved it. For those who are recieving the Packet 3 COPY from Peter: be sure to explain to your spouse that they should only use it as a guide and should go to the embassy website to download the forms (in case any updates are made).

My wife and I never recieved packet 3, NOR any other correspondence from the Embassy --- the mail service is NOT reliable. Because of the poor mail system, we have had to consider it OUR responsibility to acquire and correctly fill out any forms. We simply have had to compile the information/instructions from this website and the very good people who make up this community.

Now, here is EXACTLY what I have done in the past several weeks:

1. Sent my wife each link/web address to the individual forms to fill out. Get an Instant Message going and go through it with them until finished (or do it in stages as it can be lengthy).

2. Had her fill out and print DS-230 pages 1 and 2.

3. Had her fax, then send via courier the DS-230 pgs 1-2, a copy of her passport, and a short cover letter she wrote explaining that our approved USICS documentation was delivered to Bogota but we still had not recieved packet 3.

4. One week after #3 above, I called the Embassy (they only accept calls on Wed between 2pm and 4pm). I made sure that they had recieved the fax as well as the courier package she sent. They will ask you to provide either your spouse's FULL NAME or the reference number found on the I-797c you recieved from USCIS -- this will allow them to pull up your info on the system.

note: it was during this call that I obtained our Interview date

5. Send your spouse the links for the DS-156 and DS-157. Have her/him fill them out and print.

6. Have your spouse take the two completed forms (ds156, ds157) to a Banco De Credito location. Here they will pay the $100 for the Visa and recieve a bar-coded sticker to place on the forms.

note: as of 10/17/2006 we are currently at this phase and will report how this process went.

7. Find the list of doctors here http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/inde...&cty=Bogota and have your spouse setup an appointment prior to the interview date.

8. You should have already prepared and sent the I-134 affidavit of support to your spouse, including all support docs for this form.

9. Make sure your spouse has followed the list included in the Packet 3 and compiled all required docs. I had to MAKE MY WIFE get a blank sheet of paper and list out each item, then check them off one by one as they are compiled.

10. Make sure to review the entire supporting documents before the interview.

Please let me know if I have left something out!

Take Care,

james

ALSO!!!

http://bogota.usembassy.gov/wwwsnive.shtml

Look for "The Application Process" section (below "News"). Steps 1-3 and Supporting Documents are individual links that will explain the entire process. Although a bit vauge IMO, I was able to piece everything together from this page.

http://bogota.usembassy.gov/wwwsnivs.shtml

This is the Spanish version for your spouse to read/follow. You can also use http://babelfish.altavista.com/ to help with basic translations you need to do quickly (especially good if your spanish proficiency is a little less than conversational like mine, but I am getting there ;-)

It's great to see people go out of their way to help others out as you all do on this site. Muy noble. Dios me los bendiga.

I filed our I-295F last week after some "policias acostados" (bumps in the road- Colombian style). Jeez.. my otherwise intelligent Carolina really had a hard time with the English-language forms.

I'm writing to ask you to help out this pobre "Paisita Chiviado" (hecho en las montanas antioquenas pero nacido en Los Junited Estates). I would appreciate any shortcuts, tips, forms, advice, you name it... anything that might make this wait a little shorter. I've already travelled to Medellin 3 times this year and planning another trip for next month, and I'm starting to feel a little light in the wallet (I used to tip to the left when I sat down)

I just arrived at work, but will be able to send you the Packets as soon as I get back home this afternoon. If Peter is still MIA, I will forward you the e-mail/files I recieved from him.

Carolina will welcome the all-Spanish Packets! I sympothize with you, the English only forms can be a chore to translate -- but still a good exercise in learning English! ;) Although my wife and I are fairly fluent in both Eng/Span --- it's the conversational stuff that is tough. Alot of the time, I simply speak Spanish and she speaks English in order to keep down on the phone time --- which hurts our learning process.

Probably the best tip I can give you is --- Do NOT wait for correspondence from the US Embassy (Bogota), MAKE IT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to see that this process moves forward. It's a total waste of time (at least for deliveries to Cartagena) to sit and wait for a mail delivery that will never arrive. Once you find out that the Embassy recieved the approved I-129F, and you have recieved your I-797c notice, give them another week then:

1. As I described above earlier in this thread, locate the DS-230 and DS-157/156 forms and have your fiancee/spouse fill them out. (I provided links to download these forms from the Embassy website).

2. Fax and send via courier these to the Consulate, including a copy of your wife's passport and a short cover letter stating what is included.

3. Call the embassy again to determine if they have recieved everything. This is also a good time to find out if they issued an Interview date.

4. Pay for the Visa.

5. Compile and send the affidavit of support.

6. Call for the lab and medical appointments.

7. Review and prepare the documents (Instructions in Packets 3/4 describe the order these need to be in).

Hope this helps!

James

I would appreciate any shortcuts, tips, forms, advice, you name it... anything that might make this wait a little shorter. I've already travelled to Medellin 3 times this year and planning another trip for next month, and I'm starting to feel a little light in the wallet (I used to tip to the left when I sat down)

Unfortunately, it seems the legendary Peter Miami is missing in action. Can anyone PLEASE e-mail me the forms and instructions he refers to in the previous posts? Most interested in packets 3 and 4.
