My neighbor was married in Philippines in Late January after arriving there on December 1 st. His Filipina Wife became pregnant sometime before they married. Can someone please tell me if a DNA test is required for the baby to be established as his USA citizen child and must he go to philippines to establish Paternity. Please give any information of what is best way for him to establish citizenship of baby before he starts the VISA Process for His new wife. taking time off his job is tough because he took off 2 months for his travel to philippines and the wedding. Thank You and God Bless everyone.

Birch certificate should show father and mother, some times Philippines has different rules etc. see their forums and responses. i think DNA would apply if the government does not believe you.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

The US Embassy Manila website has a very complete guide to what is required for the CRBA (Consular Report of Birth Abroad). Have your neighbor start there.

For the baby to get a us passport it has to do with what the US embassy requires, not the Phils.. The baby is already a US citizen because the father is a US citizen. Just need to do the paperwork for social security and passport

The above comment is wrong. Having a US parent only ENTITLES one to CLAIM citizenship. It does not mean that the child is "automatically" a citizen. The father has to file a CBRA before 18(if not, no more citizenship claims possible).

The paternity test will be to the discretion of the CO. It's not required by law but many CO do even with married couples....

What are the details of the CBRA? Paperwork?
