So my fiancee got her new passport right before we submitted her K1. They did a new transliteration of her name from Yuliya to Uliia. Well, we're now approved and waiting for our case number from NVC, so I'm trying to get all the documents together to send to her. So tonight when I asked her for her passport number I had her double check the spelling. Turns out on her passport her name is spelled Iuliia, not Uliia like she told me before and we have on the petition. So, I know visa needs to match her passport...but what should I do for these documents that she needs for the interview? I assume I should just write Iuliia as it is on the passport. I know with they see so many different spellings, but I'm worried about the documents not matching up and being an issue at the embassy. Any advice??

Don't sweat it. It happens all the time and the embassy is used to seeing stuff like this.

Yep....my wife's K-1 had a spelling error and the Embassy said not to worry. We didn't worry and there were never any issues. Happens all the time, especially when converting languages.

We had the same problem when my wife got her passport renewed. The old spelling was based upon the Russian translation and the new spelling was based on the Ukrainian translation. We chose to redo the papers since we had not submitted them yet. However, you might find it easier to discuss the spelling difference in the cover letter with all of your documents and application.

Best of luck as you start your journey.

Ok cool. I know the Embassy sees a lot of crazy stuff with the transliteration from Cyrillic. I just wasn't sure if different spellings on documents would mess something up. I'll just email the embassy and let them know. Thanks!
