Hey guys. So my I-130 petition was reserved Dec, 13, 2011. It was at the cali service center. May 22 i got a email that it had been transferred to my local office. At the time I didn't know what that information meant. June 4, I filled a service request. June 23, I received a letter saying my case has been transferred to Washington district offices and i should wait 3-6 months to receive information regarding a interview. My question is, It is now well over 6 months since the received date of my petition. Now I am to wait another 3-6 months, to probably hear about a interview date even further down the road I'm guessing. Is this normal? Should i be questioning and maybe fight this considering the length of time they are taking?

I'm going to bet you have an immigration issue. From the past or currently. If this is the case, then it's pretty normal what your going through. USCIS isn't too quick to approve you so they want to give you an interview. And yes, you'll have to wait 3 - 6 months. Just to have an interview scheduled for your I-130.

If you have no immigration issues, then I would definitely question what is going on.

My case was transferred over 3 months ago. Still haven't heard a word.

Good luck!!!!

Thanks for the info, I myself have had no issues. I'm the U.S citizen. My wife was here for about 3-4 years on a student visa and was given voluntary departure for skipping a semester of college due to lack of funds (despite transcripts showing she was going to school full time since then).I see no reason for that to be an issue, everything was done as asked by the uscis, she left ahead of her given departure date, etc. Who knows though = ) Its just upsetting.

That's the issue. Be prepared to wait and wait and wait. Absolutely nothing you can do now but wait. Can't call anyone, can't get anyone involved. Just wait.

Sorry to hear this! Like I said, I sent my I-130 over 9 months ago and haven't heard anything in over three months.

As saying goes, hurry up and wait.

I'm sorry about what you're going through. I see no reason why your wife being here on a student visa, etc., would cause "that much" of a red flag for your case to be delayed, I honestly don't, especially since she did nothing wrong. So...you haven't even received your NOA2 is that correct?? Hmmmm  Well, I hope you hear something soon, and again, I'm sorry that it's taking so long. Keep busy and focus on the future and being together with your loved one. I wish you well, and let us know how it goes.

Yea, I haven't received a NAO2 yet. Short of the issue was: 6+ months pending I-130 after received date. I get a letter saying wait 3-6 more months for a interview date. Overall I was just very disappointed, but came here to try to gain any perspective as to what I should make of it. Thanks for your support.

The OP (who has no timeline) hasn't logged on to VJ since before Christmas. In another message that he posted, it appears that his wife's interview will occur in about a month, in Nairobi.

Perhaps you could go to the Middle East/North African regional forum here and post your question there.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
