"Touched" means that they (USCIS) accessed your case, so it could be that they were reviewing something, or adding information, or any reason for them to open your file. RFE means Request for Evidence, so once they are reviewing your case at any time they can ask for more information if what you provided wasn't enough- such as providing enough evidence to prove an ongoing relationship, or it could be simple things like you forgot to a sign a paper or you are missing a paper, etc. RFE is generally (I say generally because you can still be refused) the step before you are approved. Not everyone gets an RFE, but they are quite common from what I have seen. I hope that answers your questions.

This is pretty useful information for everyone! Thanks for this post

I kinda guessed what RFE means but I was a bit confused about "touching" a case. I'm kinda getting used to these TLA :) hehe

Well today I got an e-mail that my case was "updated" so I log in to the USCIS website and of course it's an RFE! I have to wait for the letter to come to find out exactly what it is- I hope nothing complicated. Even though it's an RFE I am actually relieved because that means that they are looking at my case and it's not sitting in a room somewhere gathering dust!

I hope you all hear something soon! I will keep you updated about the RFE

By the way, GOOD LUCK with RFE  hopefully after this everything will go smoothly with your case :)

It will also show up as a touch when your petition has been assigned to someone or, in some cases, unassigned from someone. From what I have read and been told, it is common also that you may only see 1 touch the entire time your petition is being processed.

Also, a very important one is TLA - This is a very common term that we all live by here.

TLA or 'Three Letter Acronym' is what lets us speak in code so the USCIS officials don't know that we know what they are up to. ;)

I'm very happy to have joined VJ!

It's clearing up some doubts I had and come up through the process, the long wait etc

:ot2:

Thanks for posting this, I have read that some cases are touched a few times and I was wondering why ours is just sitting there....it's good to know that is a common thing!

I think is pretty cool that we all get used to use TLA  I gotta say I was a little lost with it, but thanks to you guys I am on that process hehe

GOOD LUCK!

Hi all the June filers!!!

I filed I130,485,765 by end of June. Issue date of NOA1 was June 28. I did my biometrics on July 18. Now my cases are still showing that "It was accepted June 28........balabala" I havent even received my EAD yet. But I heard normally after you did ur bio, it should gets approved in 4 weeks. Now my I765 is approaching 6 weeks. I guess I should give them a call. But I dont think it helps at all.

Also I live in NY, and it shows that my case is being processed at National Benefit Center, is it slower? Looks like you guys are all being processed at either Cali, or Vermont. So I assume they will transfer the case later anyway but it's just so frustrating waiting and checking out other people's timeline........ :crying:

Anyway, good luck to everybody!!! :D

You are not applying for IR-1/CR-1. You are applying for adjustment of status it looks like. This thread is for people whose spouses are in another country and are applying for the IR-1 or CR-1 visa to enter the US as legal permanent residents. It sounds like your foreign national spouse is already in the US and therefore doesn't need an IR-1/CR-1 visa.

I also am still waiting 8 days now for the RFE letter. I called USCIS--- bad mistake. They don't have ANY information and could not tell me what the RFE was about, nor give me an idea of how long I have to respond to the letter, or even confirm that they have the correct address in case the letter was lost. I was told after 15 days (which would be Sept 9) that I can call back then. I am hoping the letter comes soon.... so nerve wracking in the mean time, not knowing what it is, or how long I have to respond to it!

Hi everyone. My husband filed our I-130 petition on 2 July 2012 but since there isn't a July Filers thread, I thought I'd squeeze myself into this support group.

We received our NOA1 on 5 July 2012 and NOA2 on 28 August 2012. The NOA2 says to allow 30 days for the NVC to contact us, so the wait continues!

Interview date: May 2, 2013
