Final question before we leave on August 4th... we're bringing A LOT of luggage, since we've been living in Russia so long and have accumulated a lot of stuff. Are there any luggage carts after the POE/getting your bags in JFK? I've seen people use them, but have never seen a place where you can rent one or something.

There should be those smartcarte things. If not, just find someone who works at the airport hanging around the baggage carousel and ask. I have seen people with really big ones before.

We came in with a ton of stuff to Newark, and got a few of those SmartCartes. I know they have them at JFK as well -- I saw them last time I flew in there. They used to be $5 a cart to hire but can't confirm that the price is still the same. Note: cash only! What a pain if you don't have any USD on you.

You might also want to try a skycap's assistance if you have a lot of stuff. Safe travels! :)

I just arrive pretty late so I'm worried they'll be closed or something :(

Just saw this -- the SmartCarte machines are automated so you don't have to worry about concessions being open.

So that seems to be our POE, and as of now we have a three hour connection, just wondering if it's enough time. I've read some reviews here but they're a bit dated and I'd like to see specifically for RUB folks how it went.

Yeah about a dozen times. Never a problem, even from the initial entry. It CAN take a long time depending on the terminal and time of day. Terminal 1 (aeroflot) is usually pretty quick. I was out of there in under 30 minutes. Alla will be arriving at terminal 1 on Thursday.

I was just in JFK a week ago. The SmartCartes are $5 and they do accept credit cards or cash from what I saw (at least the ones for departures, I assume the same is for arrivals).

Update: we arrived on August 5. Took some time as they made us both go through the non-US citizen line (god knows why), and the officers were a bit slow... I'd say we were there an hour and 10 minutes or so. So if I had to recommend anything for US citizens travelling with CR1 visa holders I'd say have at least 3 hours since the POE now wants the USC's going with the beneficiary in the non-citizen line which is usually longer and slower.
