calling PHILIPPINES FROM USA... what to use

If you have internet, and then get vonage. Your recipient only needs to have a globe service. They have a $29.99 unlimited calling to Phil globe numbers and this includes unlimited domestic and long distance calling in the US. Can't beat it really. Just sayin....

What if your wife's family has no internet service, but only landline? What is our best option then?

If they have a landline, they can get DSL. Then you can use an OBI with google voice which is free and the call quality is amazing, tons better than Vonage or a MagicJack, and you would be money ahead paying for their internet.

I also have the Vonage $29.99 unlimited calling to Phil globe numbers. With their app, I can call anywhere from my mobile phone. When I do international travel, I can use the same app on my mobile to call her through WiFi. Its all incl in the plan. Its well worth the $29.99.

I bought her a Samsung tablet with mobile Wifi device through Globe. If she needs to reach me quickly, she can send me an email or skype me basically anywhere she is and I'm always logged in skype via mobile phone.

Vonage told me if she has a smart phone, she could also call with WiFi if she downloaded the app but we haven't done that yet.

Hope that helps.

If the person you are calling from Philippines has Android or iOs Phone, he/she can definitely install a MagicJack application and register for free.

I just installed mine last week. Upon registering, US number was assigned to me. I was able to call my fiance for free and he can call me too. MagicJack is amazing although needs internet connection.

How much is DSL there. I know some family rather spend on food than internet.

do you guys have some info that you might want to share, i need a service or plan or whatever you call it to use to call back to philippines and show's record and number of who you call.. thanks..

The best one i have ever use to call the philippines is GLOBE DUO INTERNATIONAL its only $25 a month and they basically give your family member/ loves one a US phone number and you can call whenever with no international charge it's just like calling anyone here in the US it's REALLY REALLY GOOD AFFORIBLE AND WORTH IT! Only thing is they in the philippines can't calls you back only incoming calls from us :( but its ok you can call them anytime and day for a month and talk for hours. I rate it a 4 out of 5 also note that they in the philippine have to have a GLOBE SIM CARD I have the link check it out and maybe try it oh and it shows on your phone bill in the US. I used it to petition my fiancee and they accepted it you just have to print out the invoice and explain to them in a letter what it is and when you get your phone bill highlight the US number that GLOBE gives you and staple it with the invoice they send you thru email and your good to go! Hope this helps not to many people know about this service.

PS. MAGIC JACK SUCKS CONTRARY TO BELIEFS I HAD IT BASICALLY IF YOU DON'T HAVE INTERNET NO CALLING AND ITS NOT MOBILE YOU CAN'T USE IT TO TALK WHEN ON THE GO TO YOUR LOVE ONES YOU HAVE TO BRING THAT CRAPPY USB WITH YOU AND I DON'T THINK YOU CAN PRINT OUT YOUR RECORDS LIKE GLOBE DUO INTERNATIONAL DOES BECAUSE IT SHOWS UP ON YOUR PHONE BILL WHO YOU CALL.

when I was still in the Philippines, i use GLOBE IDD. You ask your fiance in the philippines if she has a globe number. Globe has a promo now, call US number unlimited for i think around 1799 Php. You give your fiance a missed call signalling she call you back so you wont be charge international call.

You can print/highlight the incoming calls from the philippines in your phone bill as your evidence of ongoing relationship.

Your fiance can register her number in Globe website then print it. This will prove that the number that calls you is from her.

Goodluck!

I use this the best!

How much is DSL there. I know some family rather spend on food than internet.

If you are looking for a way to talk unlimited amounts of time calling to the Phils, be able to call from any phone any time with good quality sound, plus they are able to call any time to any phone in the U.S., and want to do it economically (cost of DSL & the OBI is it), then you pay for the internet for them, send them an OBI and all will be good.

I have had Vonage - call quality was not the greatest, I have had the old style magicjack and the new style that doesn't need a computer - it sucked. Then I tripped over the OBI and have been using it since (over a year now) with great call quality (and they have DSL in the Phils); I have one at home and I brought one with me to the Phils last trip, and I will be bringing more on our next trip.

OBI

When in the Philippines I called back to the States with the OBI all the time, most thought I was home as the call quality was that good, some told me it was better than talking to family calling from other states.

Google voice/OBI does have international rate plans for just calling to a landline also.

You couldn't give me a Vonage or Magicjack, heck I wouldn't want either even if I was paid to take them... the OBI with Google voice is THAT good.

Magic Jack, no monthly fees to worry about,

have a new unit that doesn't require the computer to be turned on,

requires a decent internet connection,...

Apple Facetime, the latest standard on international calls,

you just don't hear the other party, you see them,...

it too requires a decent internet connection, but basically free after

buying the Apple product,...

Tell me about the Magic jack wanting decent internet speed, that is one of its flaws and part of why the calls suck. And there is a fee to use MagicJack, you pay in yearly or purchase mulitiple years.

If you think MagicJack is good you should really check out the OBI with Google voice... your magic jack would be hitting the circle file in short order.... mine did.

I want to add my experience. I have been using Vonage to PHI 29.95 monthy to call my girl who has Globe on a Android phone I boought her. There service is so BAD but it is a way I can document calls. The Vonage from my cell Phone with their Vonage Extentions App is Terible. It drops calls all the time and most calls I have to Force a stop of the application after Vonage drops it to reconnect. Tonight, I see Vonage cant connect and that is typical. Bit, I will still keep a a documented way I can call her and is better than buying a load from services that charge per minute as we talk for a long time on each call.

What we prefer is when my girl is in a WIFI area or at her Sisters or work place and can connect with WIFI. The reason I bought her the Android cell phone 'Samsung Galaxy or ???' is because she can download apps like VIBER which allow free phone calls between users and TXT too. The quality is WAY better than vonage. We also like to take advantage of the Android app TANGO as I bought her an Android phone with a front facing camera and we can not only txt, call but we can have video chats like Skype.

To sum it up for me, I need the Vonage to call when my girl is not in WIFI and it also helps document our calls. I just helped her and the kids get into a new apartment and my next step would be to see if she can get a DSL with WIFI so we can use our Android cell phones for the best quality calls. However, I will still need the Vonage as VIBER and TANGO calls can not be documented.

Just my two cents and I hope it helps.

Hey Brad it's you again, what type of plan did your girl bought from Globe? I am Globe too (Samsung Galaxy S3) under a plan of Unlimited Mobile Surfing for PHP 1,799 a month. So even without internet connection, I still can use Viber and Skype using it's unlimited 3G/4G connection. For some reason, it works wonder (on certain location). Try asking your girl what type of plan she get for her Globe android phone.

Oh well, I just found out today they don't have land line. I ask her how she talked to her mother and she told me her brother had a cell phone her mother would use. Anyway, we are leaving her laptop there, and maybe they can talk some on YM or something. I am just afraid the computer will not last that long without her there to take care of it. I checked into google voice and it is 15 cents per minute to cell and 10 to land line. Can't afford to talk everyday at that rate.
