You need to write to NBC that I want to withdraw/cancel my petition due to my CR-1 getting approved. I wouldn't advice that you cancel it. Just let it go through. There is no harm. You are still not getting your $170. It will automatically cancel if CR-1 goes to the embassy before K-3, but why would you want to cancel right now.

It doesn't cost you anything to leave the K3 process moving along with CR-1. If you get to the point later where the CR-1 is close to approval, then you just abandon the K3 process - you don't have to do anything.

Hey guys,

I'm applying for the CR1/K-3 visas and just got an e-mail today saying that my I130 was approved!

My I129F hasn't been approved yet and I want to abandon the K-3 visa and go for the CR1 visa.

Is there any action I need to take?

If you fill out your timeline, then it will be easier for people to answer you better. If you want to cancel the

K-3, then you can simply write to NBC that you are cancelling the petition because your I-130 is approved. But again, you may wanna let the K-3 continue and see what happens. It is possible that your I-129F will be approved soon and your spouse can come to USA with the K-3 visa sooner than CR1 visa.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

well you can just call NVC and tell them you are cancelling the I-129 because the reason for the I-129 is that he gets here soon, so if they are going quicker on the I-130 no sence in doing the I-129.

You can't predict that the OP will get an interview for the CR-1 sooner than for the K3. After the I-130 is approved it takes at least a couple of months for processing to be completed at the NVC before being sent to the Consulate. The I-129F for K3 typically moves through the NVC very quickly once it's approved. Another consideration is that some consulates schedule K3 interviews sooner than CR1s.
