That's like saying I won't visit Bronson Ms from Chicago because its too dangerous.

So you're saying that Manila is no more dangerous than Bronson, MS?

May your visa journey be smooth and speedy.

i dunno - she's gonna have a lot of running around to do,

what with getting the CFO sticker, attending seminars,

chasing after the medical exam,

attending the interview,

waiting for the visa packet to arrive...

Doesn't she need about a week in Manila, even going at 'go fast' speed, to get all of this done before and after the interview?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

My wife is from Butuan City, Mindanao (I think a very safe place). She flew into Manila fpr 3 days for her medical, then in for 2 days for the interview and CFO. That was the best way for us. It was cheaper than staying there. Also she got to go back home to her family. Less stress on her. She had friends and family in Manila that would check on her. She had a good time to see them, but I think she was glad to go back home.

For us, because there are two of them flying, it's close to break-even cost wise to just stay in Manila. Depending on how much advance notice we have to make flight reservations, it can actually be cheaper to stay there rather than for them to fly back and forth. Cost isn't the only consideration, but it is a part of the decision process.

I hear ya. I was able to book promo fares on Cebu Pacific. It really helps if she will have a friend or family member that can meet her at the airport and help her to her hotel. My wifes friend met her at the airport and they still got ripped off from the taxi fare. Metered taxi too. (I was ripped on my first taxi ride also lol).

My wife is from Bayugan, very close to Butuan.

When we were going through the process we were having real money issues. We found it cheaper for her and nanay to fly back and forth rather than staying the whole time. Plus, once she got chosen for the sputum test :ranting: we were lucky we made that choice. She did find a hotel that was very affordable and she was very comfortable there. Most of the people there were Bisayan, so she felt more at home. I don't recommend the hotel anymore because some found it to be below their standards, but for some, particularly those focused on saving money, I would recommend it.

But for us dealing with money issues, flying back and forth was the choice.

No it's a comparative analysis. I am saying Manila is to Mindanao as Branson is to Chicago.

Ah. And I was thinking of BrAnson, Missouri... another senior moment.

Anyway, we will continue to look for a reasonable solution to keeping my bride-to-be and future stepson safe while staying in Manila.

May your visa journey be smooth and speedy.

Stay at Mabini Mansion, rent a long term room with kitchenette and problem solved. Close walk or short ride with small child/young child to mall, embassy, and St. Luke's. Best of luck and I promise I won't ask why or what for!! They have guards , as most do, in the lobby entrance.

Bob

Thanks! I did look it up and put it on our list of "possibles."

Odd in one post you say you meant Bronson MI your hometown and in this one you actually spelled Branson correctly..

Me thinks you typed Bronson the first time and then googled " Oh god please let there be a Bronson in some state that starts with M" No biggie we all do it from time to time. ( Well most of us anyway)

welcome aboard
