Dear Forum members,

Can anybody tell me when the 2 yr conditional period starts:

1) Is it 2 yrs from the date of your marriage?

2) 2 yrs from first landing in US?

3) 2 yrs from when you receive your green card?

I asked this question from the CO at the consulate but she didn't give me a straight forward answer. We were married in April 2011 and just now I received my visa (haven't landed yet). Does this mean I will get GC for like 10-11 months only or is it 2 yrs from the date of landing in US

Thanks for your replies :)

It's about the green card, not the wedding day or arrival date.

The conditional green card is issued for two years. A person applies to remove the conditions 90 days prior to the 2 year mark.

It starts the date it states on your green card. You file to remove conditions 90 days before the expiration date on the green card.

Marriage has nothing to do with it at all. Its from the time you become a legal resident.

Your not a resident and it does not start your clock until you enter the USA. If you are married less than 2 years you get a 2 year card there is no 10 - 11 month card.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

For CR1 visa, the POE date and the green card issue date should be the same.

Not always is it the same. There is sometimes a difference on the date of entry on the card and their entry to the USA. This is why you must always check the card when you get it.

U have to file before 3 months to come ur 2nd anniversary to remove ur conditional green card.

90 days. Not 3 months.

3 months does not always = 90 days and if you file too early you are rejected and your papers sent back to you.

OMG you guys are confusing me now and I'm not even at that point. I thought;

1. Under 2 years married when u POE u get the conditional green card in mail.

2. 90 days before your 2 year marriage anniversary you file to have conditions taken off that green card.

Now this removing conditions does it cost or is it all part of the visa process. (SoRry just sitting here waiting for NOA2 for I-130 and always wanted to ask these questions).

No... not the marriage.

The green card expiration date!

You pay for everything every single part. Have a look at USCIS I-751 page it all explains it there.
