Is the Cover Letter necessary? When entering in the amount of correct fee...what exactly is the amount?

How does this look?

Contents include:

1. Payment in the amount of $ [PUT IN CORRECT FEE].

2. G-1145

3. I-129F (Petitioner)

4. G-325A and passport style photo (Petitioner)

5. G-325A and passport style photo (Beneficiary)

6. Birth Certificate (Petitioner)

7. Previous Marriage License/Divorce Decree (Petitioner)

8. US Passport/Visa for Nigeria (Petitioner)

9. Birth Certificate (Beneficiary)

10. Nigerian Passport (Beneficiary)

11. Baptismal Certificate (Beneficiary)

12. Letter certifying intent to marry (Petitioner and Beneficiary)

13. Proof of having met in person within the past two years

Boarding Passes, Itinerary, Ticket Receipts, Hotel Receipts, Letters, Emails, Call Logs (Verizon/Reptel), Photos (Petitioner & Beneficiary together)

The cover letter is not necessary, but it's not a bad way to organize your documents.

Please read the instructions on the USCIS website if you're unsure of the fee. There may be other information you've missed.

Those aren't needed for the first step. You would bring these to the interview. They give you a sample cover letter on this website. Here is the sample.

is the supplement to question 18 encouraged? or is it if I wanted to add more than the space available?

If you don't have enough room in that little box for your answer, then add a supplement page. Don't make it a novel, just answer how you met.
