Proof of Domicile

Can anyone provide any information regarding proof of domicile. I just had my interview on May 22nd in Montreal and it was not approved because we had not provided enough supporting documents. We have a place to live(my wife's parents - believe me, they want us there) and we have assets; we are not coming empty handed. All of this did not seem to matter. My wife and I have been married for over 6 years and are currently living in Canada. Does she need to go ahead and find a place to live and a job before they will grant me a visa? Or, what sort of "proof" do they require? The website isn't exactly clear. The first line to the question "How is domicile determined?" states: "Domicile is a complex issue and must be determined on a case by case basis." Has anyone had experience in this area? Any information would be appreciated.

Montreal is very strict about domicile, so strict that there are 18 pages of a thread on it in the Canada forums

Your wife will probably need to leave Canada, find a place to live and a job before the visa is issued, you can see that is what has been needed in the past

I have the same basic question. I see the response above is specific to Canada. What if you're somewhere else? Also, does your co-sponsor have to live at the same address as you? My husband and I are waiting together outside the US. My mom has agreed to co-sponsor but we are planning to move to another city.

Fan our plan work? I don't want to leave my husband to setup house and prove income in advance if I don't want to. Can anyone help? He is German and we will interview in Barbados.

It seems to me that domicile or intent to reestablish domicile is one of the areas where individual embassies/consulates/con offs have say in what evidence they will accept. Even if evidence is sent with the I-864.

Terminal G I suggest you look at the link provided as a few of us have had this issue in Canada. In our case they accepted a letter from my husband's employer.

Caribbean Pirate, you might want to ask the question in your country specific forum as their requirements may be different to those of Montreal.

Your joint sponsor does not need to live at the same address as you (I put joint sponsor in bold because that is proper term with the I-864). A joint sponsor can live in a different city or even a different State.

Caribbean Pirate (or anyone else) - do you have a current US drivers license? Do you still vote (albeit absentee?) Do you have a US-based bank account? - those are 3 pieces of evidence we are using (DCF Frankfurt) for establishing our domicile. Hope this helps!
