I think I'm right on the date. My interview is on 10/15 and it says, "The registration deadline to vote at the next election is 21 days prior to election day" I think I'm good if I register the same day. Correct me if I'm wrong...

If you get to do a same day Oath then it looks like you will make it!!! Does your office do that?

Kerran, If you want to take my advice, remove your self from the vote registeration (usually either through going to the BMV or the court in your district), if they included you in their data base, this mean they consider you a US citizen (upon your request because as you mentioned you misunderstood), if USCIS found out about that, it will cause you HUGE issues, and I mean huge (if proven, you are deportable, no waivers here), so do not panic, it can be fixed just make some efforts. Under no circumstances you should not be stated as US citizen anyhwere if possible

I'll do just that. I tried checking the database to see if I'm indeed registered to vote but it's down until 4am est. if I am registered I'll surely have that sorted out ASAP. I just looked at the registration firm and I know I didn't fill one out but it does say that I can register at my DMV, which I think is what they did when they asked me. I'm glad this came up because I had no freaking idea!

I'm trying not to panic here... My dearest husband is clueless about these things too.

I saw some discussions about what you need to take to the interview, or to be more accurate, what is necessary.

From what I saw here and there, There are a top priority and lower priority documents to consider, so I will weight in

First, please be aware that many of the IL's are standard, there is a document check list that should arrive with your IL, this is what you need to use as a guide, but I will try to just put it here as I can. Every case is different and so what you need to take with you will be a little different than what I will mention here.

Top ones: you want to take for sure your GC, DL,passport, tax returns, selective service letter if applicable, and if you filed based on marriage ( your current marriage certificate, any prior divorce for you and your spouse). if you have any kids take their BC. If you have any criminal record, take your court or any documents pertaining to your record. also any receipts of tickets bla bla.

highly recommended: It happens alot they lose passport photos, it wont hurt, go get another set even if the day before your interview, you will be surprised how much you can be delayed for such a reason. Also if based on marriage take an updated documents related to you and your wife to prove you are together and share things (even if you sent them in with your application take an updated or the same with you, some will say this is only required at ROC or AOS, but this is not true, many reported being asked about joint leases, bills. some one even was asked about his wife DL to find if her address on her DL match the guy address as a proof they live together. so anything you have to prove joint ownership and that you live together is strongly advised to take with you. You never know what the officer will ask for.

Recommended but NOT really a deal : to take a copy of your application (N-400), it wont hurt, in rare cases they misplace the file, if you like take a copy of it.

You are welcome Kerran.

In the following link, the third file is the check list that is so similar to the one that many should have received with their IL (PAGE 1 AND 2 )

It states different cases

I also want to chime in on this just to say that for the most part, these "interviews" are merely a formality, in my opinion. think about it, USCIS is not asking for anything more at this point -- they have all the information they need in our files and they have reviewed our applications. They know already before we walk in the door that we are basically approved for the most part, unless we've done something horribly wrong between Removal and N-400. Anyway, they last for probably 15 minutes or so and the majority of that time is spent simply verifying information on your application form. There will be a lot of "yes" or "no!" For me, it was spent sitting and watching the interviewer check things off with a red pen! They scan the barcode on everything and at this point, you'd be extremely, extremely unlucky if they lost anything. Make sure you read the document list and follow it exactly -- what I've learned with USCIS is that when you follow their 'rules' things usually go quite smoothly.

About the passport photos. The only reason I didn't bother was because the letter specifically says that it's not a requirement. In my heart, I don't believe that they will approve, disapprove or hold up because of two photos! :)

I sent 2 photos with my application, and they took my picture at biometrics. So I doubt they'll want photos if/when I get my IL. If they do - I'll get some done, and bring them. If they don't need them, I'll use them for my passport. Covered either way :)

I agree with all what you said.

Photos that are taken at the biometric are made for the FBI to check the individual.

Photos sent with the N-400 is for the citizenship certificate, if they lost it as reported in some incidents, they will ask you for another set at the interview, if you did not have any, they will issue you an RFE that you will need to wait for in the mail, then send back with the signed photos, I wont risk it since it takes me 10 to dress and another 30 min at CVS or USPS store for the set. It worth it.

After all, its up to you................

My interview is next week, I am so excited and little bit nervous, but I hope for the best. We will see.

Congratulation for everyone who became a citizen already, and for everyone else waiting, WE ARE ALMOST AT THE END OF THE IMMIGRATION JOURNEY :)
