when my wife's dad accepted me as part of the family. I never fully understood what that meant until I got there. I fully realized it at the CFO.

I occasionally drop by this forum as it is interesting how different some countries are and how useless it would be for me to ever comment on the goings on of visa applications in Manilla without a lot of study. You guys go through a lot more than the rest of us. Thumbs up for doing it all for the ones you love.

Ukraine...no CFO, no parental advice (18 and out), no anullments, no "CENOMAR"...

Counseling course

My fiancée went to counseling course (two hour course) after K- 1 visa approved. They will not except her parents notarized. They now want their parents approval hand written and notarized. They further want more requiring actual photo graphs that can be notarized by a photo person that took the pictures.. What is going on? This so BS

right. The CFO came out of the IMBRA law, and the Republic Act No 6955 mainly from the passport act of 1996. We can argue semantics all day on the CFO policy.

Semantically speaking, The CFO did not come out of the IMBRA law.

The CFO is the "Commision on Filipinos Overseas" established in 1980

The CFO guidance and counseling session does seem to come from the passport act of 1996.

IMBRA, International Marriage Broker Regulation Act is a UNITED STATES LAW passed by congress in 2005 and signed by Bush in 2006. That's 10 years after the

Philippines law started requiring the counseling sessions.

They let me read the letter the parents wrote and signed. (they also explained the words I did not understand.) It was a one pager. But reading it made me understand just what her dad and mom had to go through to allow us to be together. you could say I made the mistake of going with them to the CFO. But I also wanted to be there for her in case they needed me. I stayed outside and patiently waited. I was not expecting to go inside at all. It is one thing to be allowed to marry their daughter. It is quite another when parents have to "consent in writing" to you marrying their daughter. I have 2 boys, no girls. Now we are expecting a girl, so I am starting to realize just how it changes a parents perspective.

As a friend once told me, "with a boy, you ONLY worry about YOUR boy. with a girl, you worry about ALL the boys."

Yup. Personally, I find the whole concept patently offensive. Yet, as a USC, there is little to be done. Sad to say, it's their country and up to them to deal with such things.
