CONGRATS!! I think I will call USCIS tomorrow and ask whether my oath ceremony has been scheduled and for when. With Sandy on its way, there will be delays at USPS and also the letter may end up being "kidnapped" by the wind from my open-top mailbox!!

The benefit of my wife being a USC,

our two teens who are both under 18 automatically became USC as well,...

They'll be flying in next month to get them their US passports,...

In my case, it seems I will have to wait 3 years only instead of the 5 years,

that is according to the USCIS, just got off the phone from them,...

Good news - my interview was scheduled!!! Even though I am signed up for email/phone updates, I never received notification.

I think reaching out to US rep/ senator's office had a full affect! Interview was scheduled one day after m y communications with the elected officials offices.

no i am not in the tracker....i asked kind people of VJ to add me in (stats app: submitted 5/22/12, priority date 5/24/12, biometrics 7/9/12, in line for interview since 7/23/12) but none did

no date yet, just a notification om USCIS website. i will wait for the letter. i just hope with post-sandy activity it comes soon.

also, if anyone is interested, they did updated processing schedules on USCIS website as of 09/30/12.

I had my naturalization oath ceremony this morning at the Theodore Roosevelt Federal Courthouse at 225 Cadman Plaza East in Brooklyn, NY. My husband and I arrived at 7.30 (they said arrive promptly at 8.30, but not before 7.30). Security was a breeze and very professional. My husband had to watch the very dull proceedings from the Courthouse cafeteria on the third floor, the main ceremonial court room is on the second floor. The court room itself was freezing, I wore a suit and an overcoat, but I was still cold, and they wouldn't let me wear my hat in the courtroom (women were allowed to wear hats, and of course religious headdress was allowed - apparently federal antidiscrimination legislation doesn't protect men with cold heads in federal courthouses). Lots of people arrived well after 8.30 a.m., I think the latest arrived at 11.00 a.m. There is a lot of sitting around and waiting. Due to superstorm Sandy, about a third of the new citizens, including myself, were destined to go home without our naturalization certificates. There were three representatives from the City's Human Rights Commission who explained what they do if you are discriminated against in public accommodations (in reality they will only help women and minorities, so if you are a white male being discriminated against you're SOL). They also handed out voter registration cards and explained how to fill them in. The judge arrived around noon (after all the paperwork was done) the clerk read out the oath which we repeated. The judge then gave a 10 minute speech, they handed out the certificates and it was all over. Those who didn't get certificates had to hang around and be told that they had to go get their certificates on 11/7/12 at 26 Federal Plaza, which went down like a bucket of cold vomit - another day of trekking into a storm ravaged city to deal with officious federal bureaucrats, and you have to go in person. Personally, I was really pissed off that my certificate wasn't at the ceremony, the US Marshall Service could easily have got the certificates from Federal Plaza to Brooklyn. I have my passport application printed out an ready to go, I had anticipated filing it at the Brooklyn Public Library today, now it will have to wait until next week. Anyway, it's almost over.

Personally, I would have preferred to take the oath before a deputized USCIS officer immediately after my interview. The judicial ceremony involves too much hanging around waiting for paperwork to be done - if you take the oath straight away, they don't have to spend time extracting green cards from people and the like. There is no point dragging your loved ones to the judicial ceremony in Brooklyn - they won't be allowed in the courtroom, and won't see anything on the monitors in the cafeteria.
